[IRCA] QRN on lower frequencies

It is raining here in southeastern Tennessee. A nice slow drizzle, with
lighting and thunder and such. I don't really mind it, as we really, really
need the rain. Even the weeds are dying.

While trying to listen to WBBM and "When radio was" program I noticed how
strong the QRN was. (That's static noise created by nature.) I tuned up to
1400 and noticed it was rather free from such noise.

My question is: WHY??
