An idea for a project somewhat simpler than scanning ...
some archivist could just index everything in the
collection in table form, for reference

Someone could even dictate that into a recorder while viewing the
items, then prepare the list offsite at leisure so future visitors
would have an idea of what to look for and not spend hours with
possibly unwanted things.
No, I can;t do it, sorry. Just a thought. No one apparently knows
what even is held there, as of now. It would take a long time
to do all that.
