I seem to recall a solid state plug-in replacement for the ballast tube.
It's been years since I owned an R-390A, so I don't pay much attention any
more.  I'd bet Google would find it.

I do like the subtle humor of the original post of the thread.  "The R-390A
is junk, so send them to me and I'll get rid of them for you." (paraphrased)
Kind of like "The hundred dollar bill is useless.  No store or restaurant
will take them, so send them to me for disposal".

(ROTFL!)
