I used to have an R390 but I didn't use
it much and traded it to a friend (for an equal weight, hi, telescope
mount). No classic "communication" receivers here, but enough antique
radios to make up for it. During the early part of my career in the
A.F.reserves (70's) I used to drool over a little Collins (51S-1 I think)
in our shop that had a mechanical read-out. I used to do some daytime
DX with it while on break. Anyways, back then I lived and breathed boat
anchors...that's what all our comm/nav stuff was. I called them depth charges
because of the way some were shaped and what I thought they should be used
for.
