When Popular Electronics stopped doing the WPE call signs, Hank Bennett took it upon himself to continue doing it as WDX... Dont know how long that lasted. At least several years.

Heh! A quick search through Google only turned up historic stuff. There
were som WDX calls issued. Apparently for a quarter you could get a WPE
"updated" to a WDX call. Dunno why, but there's a market for anything, I
guess. Maybe the club could issue WIRCA or KIRCA calls for the appropriate
side of the Old Muddy..
I always thought it was sorta neat that my WPE call had the middle
letters
of my last name.
