Re: [IRCA] Daytime buccaneer riding the air waves.

Les,

I can't tell you much more than what I've already mentioned.

1620, nostalgia format, use the call letters WKQV, much of the material they play probably comes from KQV Pittsburgh, as described in Terry Krueger's Florida Low Power Radio Stations web site:
http://home.earthlink.net/~tocobagadx/flortis.html

They are likely nearby from the strong signal I get, but not so close as their claim of 100mW would suggest.  Today they announced that Doc Brown was upping their output using nuclear power and I presume a flux capacitor, to one point twenty-one jigawatts.  This will no doubt also help with their format, going back to get the good old tunes.

They were doing live call-in requests, current weather conditions, playing retro ads, and clever humor with Tonto as you heard.  They even have a million dollar bill giveaway contest complete with disclaimer as to the authenticity of the bill.

One DJ was on from at least 3:30pm when I first heard them, a second came on at 7pm.  Still going strong at 9:00 pm ET, Mar 1 2006.

If there were more legit stations like this, maybe AM wouldn't be suffering drooping listenership.

I emailed them a fan oriented reception report, hence the on-air mention.  Really looking forward to getting that custom made QSL card and lock of Tonto's hair! :-D

Curt,

Very cool. Who is this pirate? AM or FM? Sounds like they have a Top 40
format.
