Evokes component vs. console debate of 1960's. Outboard speaker enhances receiver. Tried connecting receiver to stereo to shade audio to taste and occasion?
DX w/DX-398 among others, many times as does Chris Black, in U/LSB. Cleans audio, props selectively fading carriers, excises sideband w/worst adjacent splatter.
To entertain varied houseguests who swan about this miserable sandbar? As you would expect, R-390. Tap audio at DIODE terminal via cap to Ampex '60 studio pre-amp. Finals? Couple geriatric Knight 735's scrounged separately. 16 KHz bandwidth awesome on stations who take pride in their analogue audio.
Junk shops feature speakers heartlessly tossed by jaded wastrels who know cost of everything, value of nothing. Their vapidness? Our benefit. Radio room features speaker boxes stuffed tastelessly behind NIKE-era Western Electric Racks. Sound good, expecially R-388's and R-390's.
Whaddabout $1 computer speakers from flea markets and hamfests? Connect separate receiver to each speaker. Feed w/different antennas. You'll enjoy Diversity Reception, albeit without costly TMS Diversity Combiner used on FRR-60 receiver. Downright mind-expanding as fades shifts between speakers.
Tap audio at line out jack, feed to set-ups similar to above. DX-398's, even '2010's & ATS-803A's with that horrid 'oatmeal box' audio sound pleasant.
