[IRCA] 3 Nov Victoria version.
This morning seemed to be another step towards more normal November conditions. Domestics seemed quite splashy also, and along with the DX fading quite erratically made for some difficulty here.
Items of note were hearing the Chinese pips on 1530kHz at 1500UT, though I would have missed them if Bruce hadn't mentioned them, and hearing the portentous tones of a man intoning "Voice of America" on 720 at the same time. Fortunately, before getting too excited, I checked the hour before .... "Voice of America KFIR" ... Excitement over.
I enjoyed Colin's report, but for the most part, didn't enjoy hearing most of what he reported. That's definitely a better listening location up there.
pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly):
594 JOAK 1429UT
657 N. Korea presumed with female chorus briefly peaking 1433UT. This can fade up pretty quickly (and down)
747 JOIB 1429UT
774 JOUB 1433UT
945 CNR1 short peak 1423UT //639
972 HLCA 1434UT, with someone underneath; still readable at peaks, 1630UT
Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):
558 HLQH, //HLSA 1435UT; Japanese underneath
567 JOIK //594 1428UT
603 HLSA //HLQH 1439UT
612 4QR assumed man and woman in DU English 1436UT
639 CNR1 1432UT //945
828 JOBB 1433UT man in Portuguese
828 JOBB 1424UT //774
837 1435UT, woman in Chinese after pop music; not //5925 or the CNR5 webstream
1017 Tonga assumed with island choral music 1434UT
1566 not sure; woman and man in Chinese 1500UT, but no mentions of FEBC; no possible // on 1053
not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker:
702 man in Chinese followed by male vocal 1358UT, not //639, as female vocalist there,
738 Chinese man talking 1427UT; no 1143 today
873 JOGB //774 1450UT
Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)
621 woman talking, Chinese intonation
711 HLKA man //864 1445UT
756 CNR1 echoey //945 1448UT
819 N. Korea woman talking //2850 1450UT
864 HLKR, as 711
1323 man talking, Russian intonation 1430UT
1458 brief fade up 1451UT, man talking, couldn't really guess; Tagalog?
1530 CNR pips 1500UT under KFBK
1575 woman talking, possibly SE Asian languag 1424UT
1593 CNR1 pips and distinctive sounds of time check and into the news 1500UT
Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter)
549 576 585 675 729 783 846 855 918 927 936 963 1008 1035 1053 1134 1143 1206 1215 1251 1305 1341 1377 1503 seemed to be Asian;
576 585 seemed to be DU
best wishes,
Nick
