[IRCA] TP 31 Oct Victoria version.

While waiting for small goblins to turn up, let's turn in a DX report .

An odd morning, with deterioration in signal levels overall from other mornings, yet a number of Chinese continued to appear. In addition, just around 1500UT (local sunrise), the upper band opened up with various channels delivering a "snarl" (TM Gary DeBock) of weak signals. Mostly no hope of identifying anything

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly):

594 JOAK 1447UT

747 JOIB 1415UT

828 JOBB 1417UT, but many times, hardly audible at all

837 China (Harbin? CNR5?) Chinese male vocal 1432UT. Seems odd programming for a news station, and couldn't match it to CNR5 web stream

972 HLCA 1421UT

1566 HLAZ assumed, woman singing followed by Chinese talk by woman 1505UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

603 HLSA 1430UT

621 woman in Chinese 1445UT

945 CNR1 1417UT

963 CRI //1323 woman in Russian 1426UT

1116 woman in Chinese 1447UT

1593 CNR1 //945 1457UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker:

657 N. Korea man in Korean 1424UT, brief appearance

693 JOAB //747 1423UT

711 HLKA man in Korean 1420UT;presumed per later //864 at 1437UT

819 N. Korea? choral music with piano 1418UT

873 N. Korea? choral music similar to 819 but couldn't get them up at the same time, 1424UT

891 JOHK //594 1431UT

954 JOKR man in Japanese 1427UT

1098 CNR1 //945, someone else as well, 1451UT

1323 CRI //963 1426UT

1422 JORF woman in Japanese 1504UT, faded up very quickly

1395 man in Chinese 1504UT; Anhui Story Radio has been heard on a DXpedition, but darned if I could line up a webstream

1575 Voice of America ID 1530UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

639 CNR1 //945 1417UT

846 man in Chinese? 1418UT, hum on channel

855 choral music 1434UT, N. Korea?

864 HLKR woman //711 1437UT

981 CNR1 //945 1417UT

1017 woman in Korean? 1447UT CRI likely

1053 man talking, Chinese intonation 1408UT

1215 CNR1 045 1417UT

1242 JOLF cuckoo pips 1500UT, but then got snarly with some Chinese? and ? involved after the hour

1287 man talking, Japanese intonation 1434UT

1332 a mess of woman talking, man on another station, and ? 1504UT

1359 CNR1 lots of grumbly carriers finally delivered,CNR news sounder then man //1593 1503UT

1458 mess of audios on north Flag 1504UT

1494 echoey man in Chinese ? 1504UT

1503 JOUK //594 1505UT

1557 woman in possible Chinese, then becoming an echoey mess (100w Japanese????) 1503UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter)

 531 648  702 738 909 918   1008  1035  1044 1053 1089  1134 1143 1188  1206 1269  1278 1377    1386  seemed to be Asian;
612 seemed to be DU

best wishes,

Nick
