Your description of receiving 1100-Brazil in Halifax was very interesting. Maybe your 3' x 3' loop looked like the latest breakthrough in string instruments?
It reminded me of when a car drove up in the total darkness at 0450 PDT (1150 UTC) at the Rockwork 4 Highway 101 turnout, coming right up next to my position. A lady got out, looked at my multiple huge FSL setup on PVC bases, then walked right up to me in the total darkness, stared right at me and said, "Are you investigating the clouds?"
