There was a conversation several years back regarding WCCO. I was at that
time 35 miles from their transmitter and at times I would hear that fade,
signifying that I was in the zone of skywave interfering with groundwave.
When and where that starts I guess would entirely depend on conditions.
Mark Durenberger, maybe you could explain the technical side of this
better than I could?

one would think for a 50kw am on a decent dial position, groundwave would
be more then 53 miles. at least one would hope.
Up in NW PA, the 50kw stations around 1000 to 1080 clobber each other...
WBZ clobbers WYSL, WBZ kinda nips at KDKA... I'm to ofar at night for
groundwave but too close for skywave from KDKA

There is a zone to where groundwave ends and skywave begins, in which
the
signal is compromised enough to hear other stations underneath. This is
most likely where are, in this zone.

Is radio reloj @ 1020 operating at a much higher power? Early Monday
morning I lost kdka @ 1020 completely and thought they went off the
air.
I
could copy reloj's familiar id in morse over kdka until after local
sr.
finally
Kdka regained strength. Admittedly, kdka is not the clear channel
they
once
were. I'm south of Pittsburgh 53miles.
