[IRCA] TP 18 April Victoria version
The DX gods seemed to have been anticipating a geomagnetic storm,
judging by this morning's results. Quite a few more DUs, and Asians
mostly limited to the big guns which were rather anemic, especially
compared with yesterday. The upper band had a bit more of an
Asiatic flavor, or perhaps, less of a DU one.
pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):
612 4QR peaking around local sunrise with two men talking DU English
1311-12UT, fading back up again at 1317UT for a last hurrah
Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):
747 JOIB end of one session of English lessons, pips, and into the
next session; Japanese woman mentioned Eigo (English) among other
less comprehensible words.
774 JOUB English lessons 1249UT; 3LO had dominated (quietly) until
about 1241UT when this started to fade up
not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:
576 2RN news //612 at 1301UT
1116 4BC man assumed, DU English, talking to another man on the phone 1252UT
1566 HLAZ woman in Japanese 1245UT
Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)
567 RNZ National likely with pips 1300UT, rock music, not //594
(which was 3WV anyway) at 1307UT seemed a bit out of character, but
not sure what else it might be
594 3WV man talking //612 1247UT
594 two men talking, Japanese inflection, mixing with 3WV 1248UT
702 2BL man talking //612 1234UT; reprise of this at 1320-22UT after sunrise
774 3LO man talking //612 1234UT
828 JOBB English lessons //747 1247UT
972 HLCA man talking Korean? 1236UT; didn't sound DU English, and
there isn't anything much on the channel from that part of the world.
1287 man talking Japanese inflection 1254UT
1323 quiet vocal music, assumed CRI 1242UT; no high band DU's were noted
Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)
873 945 954 1134 1242 seemed to be Asian;
675 1008 1098 seemed DU
best wishes,
Nick
