Tom & KAZ-
You guys are not alone. Same situation here for almost 4 years. WAY too much electrical noise is ruining the hobby at my home location. Strong signals will over power the noise. But we are mostly seeking distant, often weak signals. They don't have a chance. Fortunately, in my case, I can drive to my choice of several ocean beaches in a matter of minutes. So nice to listen to the AM Band with no power line noise! Of course IBOC is still there but its popularity among network executives and station owners is trending downward.

Neil, how about your site in Grafton, WI? Less noise there?

My powerline noise has become really bad again with the warm wx. Hopefully a wind shift will help move the powerlines to a less stresses and less noisy spots. This noise is one reason no one is reading much about my DX this winter. 73 KAZ

Did I hear anything? I sure did! The constant buzz/hash
from some nearby neighbors CFL or monster screen TV or
some kind of motion detector. I hear this broadband noise
all day long. It started about a month ago and is now non
stop. One more nail in the DX hobby coffin in my area.
I was too tired to try 720 for possible WGN being off.
As for WYLL 1160, they have separate day and night
facilities. The night site is about 10 miles NE of me. I
wish they would fix their night site broadband spurs, one
of which is around 940khz that has been heard for the past
few years! This trash signal interferes with the new
Montreal station! But why should WYLL care? Who else
listens to 940khz in this area, it's sandwiched in between
930 & 950 with their // signals.

Hi Tom,
Hopefully you logged something good on 780? Was WGN 720
also off. Due to
the proximity of their towers when there's work on one,
the other usually
goes off as well. 73 KAZ

How come wyll-1160 in Chicago never goes off the air? If
they did, I'd be able to get the ski reports from ksl in
salt lake!
