I didn't write the comment below - it was Walt. Why don't you get an ultralight like the PL380 so you can have accurate tuning and decent selectivity? Or better yet, a cheaper SDR like the Elad S2?

Thanks Chuck, had a JRC NRD535, but i sold it.. I did not feel like
carrying a 20 pound boat anchor across the street to DX in 5 below weather
during the winter every time I wanted to go outside
