Re: [IRCA] Oklahoma TP DX 10/3/16
The '70s were another time for sure. Partly it was that the clears
hadn't broken down completely, and that there were split channels
like 655 and 725, but conditions were just different. 830 was the
Ecuadorian I remember best, Huancavilca, and it was in regularly for
a year or two.
But Colombia wasn't too unusual. Venezuela was tougher but not
impossible. Surinam 725 benefited from the split frequency. Don't
recall any beyond that in South America, though I think Bruce Portzer
and/or Phil Bytheway heard Argentina and Chile also. But those were
likely on long-dead clear channels.
best wishes,
Nick

I remember that! And I have been thinking about it all week.
If you are Mark Connelly living on the east coast and have a water path to
Brazil it is a breeze, No so much for the rest of us!
In the 70's (and living in Victoria B.C. on the West coast) I heard
Colombia on 810 one night when KGO was off for service.
The only other, I think, was Caracas - cannot remember the frequency.
Nick Hall-Patch has heard Ecuador on 760 Khz (which may be a good bet
still...) and he will jump in if I flubbed the frequency.
It is 25kw during the night and 100kw during the day - so it offers one of
the best bets.
Heck, if I can hear a 5 KW New Zealand station (I know, across water and
all...) then something from S.A. must be possible.
Jump in anyone!
