We are about 2km from the waterfront (in Victoria, B.C. ) and there is lots of urban
waterfront in Victoria.. what happens (as you know) is -
salt spray builds and builds on the coastal transformers...
(off of the 14kv triples)
then you get a solid rainfall and BLAM -- up goes the xformer.

Prior to that you get discharge and minor coronal arcing..
I have seen willow trees drawing 1 foot sparks from 13kv lines! That
is sure to make lots of noise!
