This is a great question!
My first portable of anything good was a gift from my mother when I was
a teenager, a 17 transistor Norelco portable that covered AM & FM, plus
2 short wave bands. It was made in Norway I think. About the size of the
GE SuperRadio. It was a top notch radio too. I heard TAs over the pole
living in Seward AK. The sellectivity was great being used is Europe
with the 9 khz plan. I wish I had it today! I had the Radio Shack TRF
years later, then the Sony 6500, which I was not too impressed with. I
still have it. Then in the late 70s, I picked up the first SuperRadio
1, which I still have. I got the SuperRadio 2 at closeout for $29 at
Payless. Then a month ago I got the Grundig S360. Not a bad little radio
for the cost. Compared to the C Crane Radio, I did a test with at the
IRCA convention with Nick Hall-Patch, they were fairly close on
groundwave during the day.
