Re: [IRCA] 1240-KLOA Ridgecrest- Modern GY conditions

In California...OH YEAH!

In the "good old days," GYers were 250 watts at night, and there were some at 100 watts.  The good old FCC has allowed everyone to turn up the volume so they can be louder than everyone else who is also allowed to turn up the volume.  Typical now is 1000 watts.  The ambient RF levels are higher in metro areas.

My radio gets so overwhelmed that I end up with a muddled hum on some frequencies.  Nowadays I am tickled if I get Idaho, Nevada or Oregon.  In the old days, I easily picked them up, along with Washington, Montana, Arizona and New Mexico.  Very rarely I picked up Texas, South Dakota and Kansas.

Hi all,
I'm seeing some possibilities here.

Have conditions really changed that much in the last several decades to make
graveyard freq's. much different than they were? (in comparison / reference
to clears and regionals getting more crowded etc.)
