Re: [IRCA] IBOC - a request

Agreed. As long as we keep it civil, I think it's appropriate to speculate
on IBOC's flaws and future. If I'm considering investing several hundred
bucks in an IBOC radio -- to see if it can be DXed, for casual listening, or
both -- then I'd like to know whether the technology has flaws that could
affect its market potential, which in turn affects the usefulness of my
radio. Same thing for business models: If IBOC can't drive new revenue
streams, then stations might abandon it or not deploy it at all, meaning
fewer listening options for someone who bought an HD radio. That's a
valuable, relevant discussion topic.

I don't see what the problem is with discussing it, it is a legitimate topic
for discussion in my opinion as it severely impacts DXing. Are we supposed
to stick our heads in the ground and pretend it's not happening? Nothing the
matter here Ma? It is kind of depressing to think that IBOC may kill DXing
and maybe even AM radio, but it's reality and I for one would like to be
kept up on it. As matter of fact I took a ride about 75+ miles from Boston
this morning and checked WBZ's IBOC hash and yes it was still overpowering
out there on my car radio during the day on 1020 and 1040. This is the kind
of stuff I think all DXer's should know. I'm sure there are maybe still a
lot of us who haven't had the pleasure of experiencing it firsthand and
would like to know about it. It's not exactly front page news, in fact I
never heard of it before the NRC and IRCA forums and have never really seen
anything about it anywhere else. I have learned a lot about it in the past
year from posts and websites that were published here and in other radio
forums. If we can't get the info here in a forum which specializes in things
DX, where are we supposed to go for this info?
