The history is long and varied, and sociologically fascinating.

By way of intro, I have been a NRC member since 1957, and of
IRCA since about 1966. I have what is probably now one of the
very few surviving sets of sample bulletins and other items
including letters (from both sides) that originated in the famous
split of 1964. I had at one time thought of donating them to one
of the clubs but at this point I am not sure what is proper. Perhaps
you'll see them on eBay? To read them over is to give an idea
of how emotions can sometimes become strong. I suppose that
any study of the history of the clubs would include this kind
of source material. I believe that with one exception, all the
participants have moved on in life, or unfortunately out of it.

As a DXer I have heard about 85 countries and 49 states (no
AK) and verified 48 (no ND), all from either NJ, NY or briefly
in the 60's NC. So, my dedication to MW DX is strong.

I agree that a merger should not be attempted, for a number of
reasons, one of which is that there should be > 1 DX organization,
in case one of them should actually become defunct. This is
called redundancy, load balancing, no single-point-of-failure, etc

lose.

It has only recently become clearer to most of us that the club
seems (to me, at least) to be operated as a personal self-indulgence
utilizing the shared interest of MW DX to get memb ^H^H subscribers.

I got a kick out of one comment recently about how they do not
want outsider/list input when the "conduct their deliberations".
Hey... This is not the board meeting of J P Morgan Chase we are
speaking of here, with billions at stake, it is _only_ a DX club.

Really, you have to laugh when you hear talk like that. I can just
imagine these folks in their walnut lined board room calmly
puffing on meerschaum pipes as the teeming rabble (us) throng
the streets far below. Sort of like iBiquity planning on how to
market HD radios to (us). (sorry. I am really fond of that image)

I believe their BoD has self-selected its members in order to
maintain the status quo that has existed since then. This is NOT
to say that any of them are "bad" people, far from it. It is simply
that this is how they want to operate the "club", and we as DXers
are free to accept it by subscribing, or to not subscribe.

Removal of the email list just vastly complicates the whole mix.

Some may argue that the DX information that is provided in the
bulletin is all the value that the subscriber gets, and that he does
not care how the club/publisher operates, as long as the bulletin
appears, And the mechanics of the publication process have been,
in my estimation, top rate. For a long time I, frankly, hardly paid
attention to the manner in which either club operated, just so
long as the bulletin arrived timely. I suspect most members feel
this way to some, if not a major, extent, and this is true in either
club.

I think it will shake out to two e-mail lists, and that IRCA will
continue
being one of them, and I hope it will survive and grow. And I have
become more convinced that these lists should be free access
and free of cost.

I haven't contributed much DX here. This is because I am in a noisy
townhome with no good antennas, and also because, having
lived through the 60's with weekly Monday receptions of stations
all over the US on clear channels, it is hard to now get excited about
stations 250 miles away, but I still tune regularly on my dx398
to see what is hearable.

Since I strongly favor the e-mail mode where postings are pushed
out to me and I can scan them here, I should be supporting this
list more in future.

Certainly understandable, I would agree.

Unfortunately as has been said, the choices are either (1) to monitor
five
different lists (and see a lot of multiple posts) or (2) to miss a good
percentage of posted information, if you do not read all the lists.

Better stop before I start rambling.
