Les and all,
Here is a list of the available lists that I know of that will be
available following the demise of the NRC list. There may, of course,
be more that I am as of yet unaware of.
ABDX: groups.yahoo.com/group/abdx/
DX Hub: www.dxhub.com (this is the group I set up).
AM: www.am-dx.com
IRCA: www.ircaonline.org
AMFMTVDX: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amfmtvdx
I have joined all of these lists, at least until the dust settles, and
we see who the "big winners" are. It seems at this point, that ABDX and
IRCA are getting the bulk of the postings.
Like several other posters, I would like to have seen the NRC List
remain active. I will most definitely use the new e-dxn forums, but in
the forum structure, I can see where we are going to lose the immediacy
that was inherent in the NRC list. With no disrespect to IRCA (of which
I am also a member), the NRC list always seem to be the fastest to post
new messages. Higher server/internet speed? This was especially
helpful on nights when I ran DX tests last winter. Messages during the
test would appear almost immediately after submission, while those
submitted to IRCA would sometimes take up to 5-10 minutes to appear. In
such cases immediacy is important. In normal situations, however, 5-10
minutes probably doesn't make that much difference.
As a dxer, I treasure this hobby and the people whose selfless efforts
go into keeping it hopping; especially those who take the time to
moderate lists and forums such as this, and who edit columns in club
publications and websites. They are to be thanked for their efforts.
As a broadcaster, I appreciate those who reach out to the broadcast
community in a way that increases our (the dxers) respectability and
legitimacy. You will never know, for instance, the accolades you guys
who visited WNTP-WFIL during the NRC convention received from our staff.
You made us DXers look good.

Rene'

Les,
Some have already moved over to the IRCA. There are several other lists
out there too. I looked into ABDX, but since they are in HTML form, it
doesn't work with Web TV very well. Rene' has started a list, Paul
Walker has too. I think he is off the NRC now, but is on the IRCA list.
You might ask on the IRCA list.

Patrick
