Re: [IRCA] brief wobbler on 590

Bob,

Congratulations, you not only heard a rare Wobbler outburst, but on a previously unreported frequency.

A brief, extreme outburst of wobbling has been heard before.  I heard one on 750 a couple days ago, Paul Z. and others have reported hearing them also.  Not something you can casually scan for, you just have to happen to be there when it happens.

Sounds like some sort of switch over that disturbs the transmitter.  I would attribute this to a switch to or from back-up power, since my current favorite theory is that the Wobbler is a manifestation of power issues.  But that is strictly my opinion.

930 is a frequent host of the Wobbler, but as I say 590 is a new one.  I'll add that to my list of frequencies to check.

Today at 1400E -- after nulling WAFC, a Spanish speaker in Clewiston -- I was able to hear a fairly good signal from CMHI, playing instrumental music.  It was easy to distinguish that from the raucous advertising on WAFC.  Then the QRN hit -- storms are building around Miami -- and I abandoned the effort for the time being.

Subject: [IRCA] brief wobbler on 590

Driving back from S.C. last night. (Techno-Security 2005 conference).
I was listening to 590 just as it was getting dark. For some
reason I am noticing that lots of Cubans e.g. 570, 590, 620, 640, 670,
710, 770 are being hrd in central Fla very well for about a half hour
centered around 2100 EDT, at the same time domestics such as
Miami 560 and 610 are nonexistent. I was listening to piano mx
from Havana on 590 when a wobbler burst on the freq at 2111
but it only lasted 10 seconds!! and then was gone, but it was atop
the channel for those 10 seconds. It was so strong that I was
unable to tell if it replaced the 590 mx, or just covered it, but it
disappeared as fast as it appeared and the 590 mx was left as
it was before. A half hour later I had wobbler on 930 but it was
just at detectability, but it ran for several minutes at least.
