Mike,
You have that right! KADY was the original call on 1460; the owner, a Mr.
Kady, also owned KADI St. Louis, MO on 96.5 MHz (now KIHT on 96.3) until the
station was sold to Richard Miller's Communications Fund, Inc. They tried a
unique experiment in stereophonic sound; broadcasting one Stereo channel on 1460
and the other on 96.5.
KIRL was a Top 40 station that tried to compete with KXOK 630 and KSLQ 98.1
(now KYKY) during the 1970s; one of the most famous personalities was Ken
Kuenzie, who is now a small-market radio investor. KIRL tried a country format
before Mike Rice sold it to Bill White, Mel Gray and Johnny Roland in
1979.
Tony and Theresa Holman recently purchased the station, signing on the air
May 29 (the Feast of Corpus Christi); announcements announcing the expansion
have been produced by former St. Louis sportscaster Zip Rzeppa. The slogan is
"Heart of Jesus Radio". (Bob Wien, take note!)
