I spent most of my 4 years in the Navy either in school, or as a Radioman on
a Submarine, the USS Haddock SSN621.
I spent my last year in the Navy (1969) as a Radioman at ComSubPac in Hawaii
sending out the fox broadcast to Submarines in the western Pacific. I made up
the broadcast on teletype tape and sent it to three transmitter sites. The
tape, as it came out of the tape reperfs at the three sites, was then fed
into Beckman keyers and went out CW. The transmitters were located in Japan,
Hawaii, and Guam. I believe that the one in Japan may have been a real old,
giant alternator. I'll bet that one was a piece of work.
