Chuck sounds more like a SUPPORTER of IBOC than an opponent. The main goal
is to wipe all illegal digital modes from AM and FM, and confine them to
satellite and the L-Band.
Freescale, the semiconductor division of Motorola, has brought out a series
of semiconductor chips with the marketing name "Symphony". These receiver chips
will require no investment in new equipment from broadcasters. They are designed
to convert analog broadcasts to digital. This includes the proven Motorola
C-QUAM AM Stereo system which has been in use for over a quarter of a century,
as well as the proven FM Stereo system that has been in use for nearly half a
century. The FCC should be promoting the improvement of receivers by encouraging
the use of this chipset, not by the use of wasteful (as in spectrally
inefficient) technologies like IBOC, CAM-D and DRM.
