Not knowing how wasteful of spectrum space this technology is. NPR really should be WITHDRAWING support for IBOC...this is the threat facing American broadcasting.
Rene's idea is a good one...but if we are to have a separate digital band, it should be for the purpose of clearing all corporate-owned stations from AM and FM, and turn it over to independent, community-oriented broadcasters.
