Around 1980, it was possible to do from Utah. I sort of cheated, I went out to the
desert and set up beverages aimed at either Northern California, or Southern
California. It was interesting to hear which stations topped the channels. My radio
was a Realistic TRF, I would wrap the wire around the radio and ground the end of
the wire to the car. It worked.
