Phil:
I have thought about what DX would be like with IBOC. And I have
concluded that we will not be able to DX nearly the same number of stations that
we can now. Yes, the propagation is the same, but there would beat least the
same amount or interference and perhaps even more and from what I understand
digital receivers are less forgiving to interference. Additionally, as difficult it is in
analog for our ears to distinguish between stations that are within a similar range
in signal strength I have the feeling that it would be nearly impossible with digital.
For example, right now on my radio I have my local WNAV 1430 nulled as best as
I can, and I can hear AND identify at least two other stations roughly as the same
signal strength or maybe a slightly weaker (WENE and WVAM), because my ears
and brain allow me to deal with the interference. I think I would not have any
chance at all to hear them it they were all digital. Can you imagine what the
graveyard channels would be like?
Can someone else make a comment about this?
