[IRCA] Re: A dumb question...even dumber answers gladly accepted



One dumb (but true) answer coming right up!

"hi" is the abbreviation for laughter as used by hams running Morse
code.  Back in the days when radio club bulletins were hand-typed on
typewriters, this and many other ham abbreviations made it into the
lingo of other DX clubs too.

In Morse code, "hi" consists of all dots, so it sounds like a giggle:
heh-heh-heh-heh, heh-heh.
