Excellent introduction to NDB DXing resources, Steve. Thanks for putting
it together. All I would add is that untuned outdoor loop antennas are
surprising good for LW use given their size, and are often less responsive
to local electrical noise than active whips. A "floppy loop" with
matching transformer as described by Glen Kippel in IRCA reprints and/or
Technical Guide is pretty good for this purpose, and it can be mounted
close to the ground, next to a wooden building etc. Larger loop, more
signal. If amplification is desired, Wellbrook's ALA100 unit puts out a
solid signal with quite a small loop.
