A collector of distant radio signals has picked up a BBC Scotland local news
bulletin broadcast in Finland.
Teacher Jussi Suokas, 55, who lives in Joensuu, said it had been possible to
tune into the FM signal because of a rare atmospheric phenomenon.
Mr Suokas said he was able to listen to and record the local lunchtime
bulletin read by Andrew Thomson in Inverness on 15 June.
He has a large antenna on his family home to pick up distant broadcasts.
An atmospheric effect known as E Sporadic, or Es, is caused by intense
ionisation in a region of the ionosphere.
It reflects distant radio signals and when it occurs is of great interest to
radio hams.
