 WORLD OF RADIO 1424 SUMMARY:
*VOA added frequencies for live coverage of Republican con, but hard
to get info about them, such as 6080 on before usual 0300 opening,
not even at special website http://www.usavotes2008.com/
*WEEKLY SEDITION: HOMELAND POLICE STATE:
 http://wrir.org/x/modules/news/article.php?storyid=7740
mp3 audio: The Police State in Action: Preemptive Fascism at the RNC
*Democracy Now journalist Amy Goodman in jail:
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYjyvkR0bGQ
*Area 51 on WBCQ, now daily 23-01 UT on 5110; including WORLD OF RADIO
Fri 2300, International Radio Report 2330, and simulcast 7415 Allan
Weiner Worldwide from 0000 UT Sat
*WORLD OF RADIO also added in open slot on WBCQ 7415, Monday 2200,
following This Week in Amateur Radio International at 2100
*Visitor to site of KAIJ, Frisco TX, finds it stripped and abandoned,
 antennas removed
*WRNO New Orleans missing from 7505 since UT Aug 31 in anticipation of
Hurricane Gustav, still not back Sept 5; antenna dismantled?
*Lots of streaming audio and video from New Orleans and other
 hurricane-threatened areas, such as:
 http://www.wwl.com
 http://www.maroonspoon.com/wx/gustav.html
 http://www.hwn.org/
 http://www.weatherserver.net/gustva.htm
 https://www.reciva.com/listen/locations
*More details in DX Listening Digest 8-095 and 8-096 via
http://www.worldofradio.com in the archive of DXLDs for 2008
*As Hurricane Hanna approached Bahamas, ZNS 1540 again heard in North
America; normally has deep null toward continent centered on Waterloo
*Unidentified on 6185 at 1002, Radio Libertad, or Comunidad or Verdad,
unseems R. Educación, México as usual; apparently the latter no
longer running all-night, ends at 0600?
*John Callarman has compiled an updated multi-sourced listing of
Mexican MW stations, free to all, e.g. via
 http://www.nrcdxas.org/articles/index1.html
*WORLD OF RADIO confirmed at new times on WRMI 9955, Sat 2000, Sun
 2030
*Why not ``Ask Arnie`` why Cuba finds it necessary to jam a competing
 English-language DX program?
*All RHC frequencies and R. Rebelde 5025 were missing for at least an
hour the morning of Sept 1, after Gustav crossed western Cuba; but
jamming against WRMI and R. Martí, plus relays of China and Venezuela
continued, confirming our assertion that jamming has priority over
 RHC for the power available
*New R. Rebelde relay on 1550 in Nuevitas, Camagüey, but also a Cuban
swisher-jammer against Florida on same frequency
*R. Amanecer, 1560, Dominican Republic, moved to 1580 to accommodate
 R. Universidad ASD on 1560, which also plans SW 3 kW on 4720
*R. San Francisco is new name for R. LV de los Andes, San Miguel de el
Faique, Perú, reactivated on 5602.4, heard in Colombia at 2210-2240
*Bolivian heard again on 4498.2, from Guayaramerín until 2301,
 presumably R. Estambul as before
*RAE, Argentina, off the air while awaiting replacement tubes, but
 still webcasting
*Yet station believed to be RAE heard in Venezuela, Brasil on new
 5940, 5945 during the 2300 UT hour
*Standard disclaimer
*The media magazine you monitor with your mind, World of Radio 1424,
 P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA or woradio at yahoo.com
*We get some reception reports asking for QSL, but leave QSLing to the
stations which carry our program. If you want a card especially for
WORLD OF RADIO, report to WRMI on a 9955 broadcast
*Algeria`s longwave 252 jumped to 250 kHz, putting heterodyne on
Ireland 252 [but only for a couple of nights]
*Absent since the coup in late July, 4845 from Mauritania resumed
August 18; could be on 24 hours now for Ramadan
*ELWA Liberia heard on its other frequency, 6070 until 2300 sign-off.
More QRM for the about-to-reactivate CFRX Toronto [which did reappear
Sept 4, off frequency to the low side]
*TWR Benin, 1566 kHz, heard several occasions around 0500 off the
 coast of British Columbia
*Nigerian heard in Europe on 917 kHz, one kHz off correct 918 kHz,
turns out to be Radio Gotel in Yola, while Radio Benue in Makurdi
 remains on 918
*Radio Africa, Bata, Equatorial Guinea, continues active most days on
15190; on Aug 30 we even heard it past 2200 overriding WYFR
*Radio Saint Helena Day 2008 set for Saturday November 15 on 11092.5-
USB, but schedule reduced to 2000-2330
*Radio Dunamis, low-power missionary in Uganda, 4749.99, heard in
Denmark from sign-on 1700 until 1910; at first mixing with Bangladesh
*New Ethiopian opposition station [and I forgot to mention the name!
Ginbot 7 Dimits Radio] starts Sept 11, 1700-1730 on Tue/Thu/Sat,
17655 and 21555, sites not stated but probably France
*Ethiopian Review article about it gives local time as 2:00-2:30, but
since they start counting from sundown instead of noon, we would call
it 8 pm, = 1700 UT in the UT+3 zone
*Egypt on 6290, Arabic to North America was closing at 0200 all summer
due to DST of UT +3, but now running past 0200. DST ended early just
in time for Ramadan, back to UT +2
*BBCWS announces special programming for the US elexion; see
 http://bbc.com/uselection
*Ukraine`s revived domestic service relay on 5970 confirmed in Europe
 at 0600, 1230

0415 and 0520, relaying R. Rossii part of the time, Abkhaz State
 Radio, Soxum

 http://www.antique-corner.com/SWLQSL/israel18.htm
*Golos Pravoslavya, Voice of Orthodoxy from France via Kazakhstan 9950
to Russia, heard in BC on Tue & Fri 1430-1500 broadcast starting with
 church bells
*Pakistan extends DST of UT +6 two more months until end of October,
so no schedule shifts yet in broadcasts to or from Pak
*Bangladesh Betar, 4750, heard in the mornings on west coast, 1237-
1355, and in the evenings on east coast, from sign-on 2359
*Bhutan, 6035, English hour at 1400 has been cutting to open carrier
 after a few minutes
*Shiokaze, from Japan to North Korea about abductions, at 1400-1430
shifted to 6015 to avoid jamming, then back to 6020, and added new
French segment at 1418 Friday August 29
*CKXR, Salmon Arm, BC, turned off its AM 580 on Aug 27, continues on
 FM 91.5 as EZRock
*Bob Cooper on the consequences of lack of sunspots if solar cycle
does not pick up: SW useless above 15 MHz, crowding stations into
lower bands; and sporadic E the only mode for 1000-8000 miles above
30 MHz, bad for ham radio
*Propagation outlook from SWPC, Boulder, Sept 2: A and K indices
peaking Sept 5 and 14; flux stuck at only 67 thru Sept 29
