 WORLD OF RADIO 1417 SUMMARY:

*WHRI plans to use 7335 again in B-08 season, at least for BBC Mundo at 12-13 presently on 9410
*But CHU, Canada timesignals will move to new 7850 this summer with 
 equipment upgrade
*VOA to cut language services in September: radio and TV in Russian; 
 radio in Ukrainian, Serbian, Hindi, Macedonian, Bosnian, Georgian
*Tibetan was saved by monk lobbying; no mention of English
*WBT, 1110, Charlotte NC, Time Machine oldies show on Saturday night 
 dies for lack of ads
*Tony Schwartz, sound man has died; hear 20-minute feature at 
 http://www.onthemedia.org/transcripts/2008/06/27/04
*Harry Helms says there is absolutely no interest in DRM among the 
 public except for a few radioheads, and for that matter not in 
 shortwave either
*Jay Heyl says domestic DRM on SW might work if it were sold as a 
 terrestrial equivalent to satellite, as channels, blanketing the 
 country with new transmitters
*Radio Altura, 5014.37, Perú, airs birthday greetings in half hour 
 before 0459 sign-off
*unID South American on 3450 or 3453 relays WEWN, R. Católica Mundial; 
 3 x 1151v kHz?
*R. Voz Missionária, Florianópolis, Brasil on 5870 heard 2045/2255 but 
 is it on all-night? Still no reports from outside S America
*RDT Malienne, 7284.5, audible in Italy in daytime, 0956 and 1408
*R. Mauritania, 7245, also heard in Italy at 0955
*V. of Nigeria was off-frequency from 15120 and 9690, 700-800 Hz low, 
 such as 9689.3, but back on channel since
*V. of Biafra International, via WHRI, Fridays 20-21 UT, finally moved 
 July 11 from 17650 to 15280
*Cameroon with English news at 1400 on 6005 reported from Nigeria; 
 that would be Buea if confirmed, inactive for 7 years. Japan donated 
 eight new transmitters, but any SW? Needs to be on at night for DX
*Equatorial Guinea was active on 6250, June 15 at 0600, with time 
 signal and news in Spanish 6.5 minutes late [but gone again 2 days 
 later]
*RN Angola 4950, off-frequency at 4949.77 or 4949.7 before and after 
 0000
*R. Dunamis, Uganda, off 4750 as transmitter shipped back to HCJB for 
 repairs; resuming soon?
*R. Uganda, heard poorly after 0400 on 4976
*R. Ethiopia, 7110, but also on 7115 at 1659
*The non-commercial, non-Christian, non-corporate, non-Cumbre, non-
 communist and non-conformist DX program, World of Radio, 1417, 
 http://www.worldofradio.org woradio at yahoo.com or P O Box 1684, 
 Enid OK 73702
*Krasnodar-Tbliskaya, Russia site of VOR 15455 and CRI relay on 1170 
 puts mixing product on 14285 before and after 2000
*CODAR, ocean wave radar, invades 12m hamband, 24950 from Naples, 
 Italy
*Interview with Dody Cowan (now Deborah Rey) by Dan Lewis on WBCQ 
 7415, UT Monday July 21 at 0100
*BBCWS in English at 17-19 via Rampisham on 13865, surprisingly well-
 heard in North America, moved to 13675, now not heard; in June was 
 running both with mixing product on 14055
*Home plugs (power line adapters) in UK a big threat to SW radio, 
 operating on 3-30 MHz; new group to discuss it:

*VOA verifies a report on R. Solh, clandestine to Afghanistan --- but 
 VOA has nothing to do with it. What else will they QSL automatically? 
 Better route might be RFE/RL
*IRIB intrudes on 20m band edge 14350 at 17-18, Russian via Zahedan, 
 Iran, 2 x 7175 
*V. of the People, from South to North Korea clear on 6518 while 6600 
 was jammed; both could be on from 11 to 21 UT; also on 3912 with 
 music test at 1000-1029
*Furusato no Kaze, from Japan to North Korea adds 1333-1400 on 9585 
 via Taiwan; already in Japanese at 1430-15 on 11775 Darwin, 1600-1630 
 9780 Taiwan; in Korean as Ilbon e Baram at 1500-1530 11690 Darwin, 
 1700-1730 9820 Taiwan
*RTM Sarawak, 7130 made it as far as Texas at 1205 with Qur`an. More 
 Qur`aning also being heard on 5964.93, Klasik Nasional FM
*V. of Indonesia keeps airing English at 13-14 on 9526; another new 
 time at 1000. WRTH Update has new tentative schedule via  
 http://wrth.com Add to that Hindi heard at 1630-1700
*VJN, Royal Flying Doctor Service, Cairns, Australia, heard in New 
 Zealand on 7465 at 2050, 2120, 2150, 0920, 0950; WWCR also on 7465 
 from 2100
*RNZI anomalies such as 6095 instead of 9615 one day after 0600; 9655 
 instead of 6170 past 1300
*Symptoms of pathological DXing
*Solar cycle delayed a year
*Propagation outlook from Prague
