[HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs December 26-30
** AUSTRALIA. Very unusual conditions on Dec 29 at 1448, as RA was very weak on
9590, versus enhanced signal from Japan on 9595; also weaker than normal but a
bit better on 7240 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. The DentroCuban Jamming Command helps out the North Koreans by leaving
the jammer on 5890 during VOA`s Korean service via Marianas from 1200 UT, as
noted Dec 30 at 1204. R. Martí probably wasn`t there anyway, but jammed as a
precaution; jamming also running on 5980 against audible Martí, and 6030, where
Martí presumably closed at 1200* (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. Re Bernie O`Shea`s schedule in DXLD 6-187, on Dec 30 at 1211 I found
that RHC was also using 6180 in Spanish in the morning, VG signal. And at 1239,
also audible on 12000 with deportes, poor signal this early as was the
Venezuelan relay on 11705. So 12000 is on before 1300, and also unknown span on
6180 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** INDONESIA. VOI The Hum, 9525, inaudible for a change Dec 28 at 1451, but
back to usual level the next day Dec 29 at 1450 check. That`s the sesquihour
wasted with open carrier (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** JAPAN [and non]. Trying to listen to NHK Warido, R. Japan in English, Dec 29
at 1440 on 9875, it was marred by QRDRM which was also audible on 9880, but not
against much stronger WEWN signal on 9885. At first I suspected RNZI had made
another frequency change, but per DRM schedule at

it is Kuwait: 1345-1745 daily 9880 282 N Africa 120 Radio Kuwait KWT Arabic

** MEXICO. Still no trace of XEYU 9599.4 at various daytime chex Dec 27 and 28

razón, ya que, los encargados técnicos se encuentran de vacaciones. Espero que

** U K [non]. Dec 30 at 1230 I found BBCWS relay via WHRI on 9660 much inferior
to French Guiana on 9750, partly because 9660 was suffering QRDRM which was
also audible on 9655 but not on 9665. This is:

** U S A. UNIDENTIFIED. 2670, SSB, Dec 26 at 0559 found marine weather
including winds and seas; said next broadcast would be at 1035 Z = 0435 local
time. Could not catch ID in noise before it went off shortly after 0600.
Therefore Central timezone, Gulf Coast, LA or TX. I am sure a schedule of such
USCG? broadcasts exists somewhere (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Something strange on WYFR 11565, Dec 28: at 1358 there was a strong
carrier, but tuned to the middle of it, WYFR IS and IDs were barely audible;
however, they became much louder altho distorted when tuned a bit to either
side. It was as if there were a second carrier on the frequency, but
narrow-band, and thus not blotting out the modulation of the WYFR signal on the
sidebands. But there was no trace of a sub-audible heterodyne, and no other
station listed on 11565 anywhere near this hour. At 1401 with programming, WYFR
audio became normally heard. I assume this was instead some problem with WYFR`s
own modulation (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
Hello Glenn, I could only surmise at this point. One possibility is that some
other broadcaster tuned up briefly on the frequency. Another possibility is
that the tuning of our transmitter was a little off temporarily. The operator
has to make frequency changes on five transmitters during that period (1400),
and is moving fast. Once everything is up, he goes back around to tweak the
tuning as needed. PA grid drive being low might account for what you heard.
Getting the tuning spot-on would bring the drive back into range. Best regards,
