PERU 5602.56 LV de los Andes, San Miguel de El Faique, Huancabamba 0112
very animated M anncr w/mx at t/in. Ment of ??radio?sintonia. ?? mas ??
numero uno ?? Huancabamba?frontera? ?. Another ment of Huancabamba, radio,
and numero uno. Mx bridge, then clear ID by different M as ??Radio La Voz
de los Andes??. Canned echo anmnt by M w/clear ment of Huancabamba. Then
another over beautiful OA flute mx w/ment of frontera. Live M returned for
a very short anmnt at 0117, followed by apparent canned tlk by W (briefly)
then M anncrs over Huayno mx w/ment of Juan Castro, and ?la radio? and ID
??onda ??, La Voz de los Andes??. Suddenly went off at 0119:30*. Best
signal yet and very glad to get the ID. (12 Nov.)
PERU 4751.79 R. Huanta Dos Mil 1001 Canned anmnt by M in pres. Aymara,
then live M briefly including ID, more canned anmnts in SP. Live M
returned at 1004. Good signal and Codar not as much of a problem this
AM. (13 Nov.)
PERU 5039.17 R. Libertad de Junin (pres.) 1048-1055, Already on at t/in
w/pres. nx by alternating M and W. Actuality by M also. Ment of
Peru. Canned ad at 1054. Not very strong and annoying slop QRM from 5025
Rebelde. Fading out too quickly and too far gone by 1055. (13 Nov.)
4918.98 R. Quito On the air today 1000-1100. (13 Nov.)
NORTH KOREA 2850.05 KCBS Pyongyang Once TVI ended at 1132, hrd ?hard?
speech or somesuch by W anncr. Then 1137-1159 pgm of nonstop peppy mx
either instru. or w/womens chorus. 1159 M anncr w/ID, deadair, and 3+1
(higher) time ticks. 1200+ impassioned tlk by M. Amazingly strong clear
signal peaking at 1200. Still coming in very weakly at 1242 w/mx when the
MD recording ended. Wonder if the recent increase in solar flux levels
have anything to do with this improved signal. Usually its very difficult
at best. (13 Nov.)
ARGENTINA 6214.7 R. Baluarte/R. Armonia 0140-0156 Preaching by M in
SP. 0156-0159 soft vcl mx. 0159 M in PT w/clear R. Armonia
ID/freq. 0159-0206 more soft PT mx, 0206 sounded like 2 promos, then back
to soft PT vcl mx until the MD ran out at 0212!! Best heard in quite some
time. Was hoping to get s/off. (14 Nov.)
PERU 5039.17 R. Libertad de Junin (pres.) Suddenly popped on at exactly
1052:48, then audio w/M and W tlking 6 seconds later. Not really strong
enough to copy. (14 Nov.)
PERU 5024.92 R. Quillabamba 1005 Could hear this underneath Rebeldes
OC. Canned anmnt between campesino songs. Another anmnt w/Laser
shooting-like SFX, live M briefly, and beautiful harp mx. Think this
would?ve been really nice if Rebelde wasn?t on. (16 Nov.)
PERU 4886.63 R. Virgen del Carmen 1014 prob. ad of girls chorus mixed
w/tlk by W w/ment of ??la voz de la ciudad??, then another ad including an
excerpt of a speech. 1017 brief anmnt by live M w/ment of onda corta, then
another ad w/ment of ??la voz de la selva?? and ?la hora?, then canned ID
by M at 1019 as ?4885 kilohertz onda corta, R. Virgen del Carmen? ending
w/very short fanfare mx, and back to live M anncr to 1023. Into nice OA
harp campesino mx. M returned at 1026-1031 ments of trabajo. 1031 into ad
block. Slowly fading and barely there at 1100. Finally able to ID
this!! Best signal in quite a while but audio has a buzzing sound and
there?s slop QRM from 4885 ZY. They have a very nice Web site. (16 Nov.)
PERU 5014.42 R. Altura (pres.) 1006 live M at t/in (pres. nx) w/ment of
nacionales. Canned shouting anmnt by M, and into campesino mx. 1012 live
M, TC and anmnt, another song. 1017-1023 ad/promo block. First one start
w/ment of Juventud, ment of Cerro de Pasco. 1023 live M. Didn?t hear any
IDs. (17 Nov.)
ECUADOR 4909.23 R. Chaskis (pres.) 1100 Beautiful very professional
campesino mx w/great flutes. 1101 W anncr in Indian lang briefly w/ment of
?nacional?, then more mx. More of the same w/anmnts by W at 1108, 1111,
1117, 1122, and 1126, but didn?t hear one ID. (17 Nov.)
BRAZIL 4925.07 R. Educacao Rural, Tefe (pres.) 2332-0102 tlk by M
w/flute mx underneath. Ment of telefono. Noise at ToH prevented ID. Not
that strong. (17-18 Nov.) See below
BRAZIL 4925.09 R. Educacao Rural, Tefe, 0959 End of ZY Pop song, then
simple ?R. Rural? ID by M, fanfare w/women group chorus, and full canned ID
by M, and M in slight echo w/pres. nx. Good signal. (18 Nov.)
BOLIVIA 4928.2 R. San Miguel (pres.) 1007 rustic drum beating mx,
muffled long tlk by W at 1009-1013+. Faded very quickly after 1015. Slop
QRM from Brazil below too. Imposs. to copy. (18 Nov.)
CUBA 6300 R. Havana Cuba spur 0630-0700 RHC puts out a nasty spur here
of 6180 until it signs off at 0700. (19 Nov.)
NORTH KOREA 6285 R. Pyongyang 1057 caught end of sked and ID by M in EG,
then OC. Into IS at 1100. Strong w/a little slop QRM from CRI below. (21
Nov.)
ECUADOR 4909.23 R. Chaskis 1053-1055 beautiful HC mx w/W vcl, 1055 M
anncr in SP w/song anmnts and also nice clear ID, then back to more HC
mx. 1058 another clear ID by different M in lcl dialect. Great flute song
at 1101. A little bit of echo on M voice and also actualities aired during
feature at 1104-1112. Back to mx. Finally lost around 1150. Hrd again in
the evening w/nice signal at 0153 on 4909.24. Mx was turned down and had
deadair from 0245-0252, and again 0318-0321. Went off at exactly 0329:10
after anmnt (including ID) w/out fanfare. S/on is very irregular and
sometimes audio is so weak as to be nearly imposs. to detect. Nice today
though. (22 Nov.)
HONDURAS 3249.7 R. Luz y Vida Has been slightly above 3250 for a while
but was here below today at 1116 w/M and W in SP and EG rel. pgm. (23 Nov.)
PIRATE (NA) 6930 WBNY 1432 Political discussion, tongue in cheek comedy
songs, NBC chimes, ads. Shouting/singing and Turkey gobbling. Monotonous
?Monkey? sound bits/speech collage. ?Pirate Quiz? show. ?99 Dead
Baboons?. (23 Nov.)
PIRATE (NA) 6876.12 The Crystal Ship 1530, song by I think 10 Years
After. 1532 ID anmnt w/echo. ?Good morning Vietnam? and ?Fortunate
Son?. Decent signal. (23 Nov.)
PIRATE (NA) 6850.06 WBNY 1537, continuing here w/same kind of pgming as
hrd on 6930U earlier. This was in AM mode and much weaker. (23 Nov.)
After coming home from visiting relatives at 1840, I found the power was
out. I immediately gathered the Power Tank and DC power cord and headed up
to the radio. Was getting a weak carrier on 4845, and decent audio from
5025 Rebelde, but that was all for 60 meters. 49 meters was full of
stations. Found another carrier on 4780 (Djibouti) at 1900. Oddly, it was
pretty noisy for there not being any power in town. The power was finally
restored at about 0020. (23 Nov.)
CLANDESTINE 6245 R. Zamaneh Booming signal at 1843. (23 Nov.)
PIRATE (NA) 6924.94U Captain Ron 2023 Live bdcst, ID, e-mail addr, ment
of the Free Radio Weekly. Said hasn?t been on for a while. Testing
audio. Later was playing mx. Good. (23 Nov.)
HAMS 3943L Hams playing around Boots Randolf ?Ruby? at 2048, then M
w/song anmnts and ment of VH1 Classics. CW briefly, and more tlk. (23 Nov.)
PIRATE (NA) 6875.39 WBNY 2055 M w/political tlk, 2059 parody song. Cow
SFX over Rock mx. Same type of pgm hrd earlier. FRN logs had WBNY
here. (23 Nov.)
24 November 2006: Went up for a micro-DXpedition as I wanted to compare
mid-day 49 and 60 mb reception to last year at this time. The K index was
high and there were G1 level storms. On the way up, the NRD fell off the
seat and onto the floor again. Fortunately there was no damage except to a
bent adapter ground plug. The NRDs are really solid radios!!
RX: JRC NRD-535D
ANT: 315' Beverage (BOG) at 50°, and 395? at 85°
QTH: Pennsylvania State Game Lands #26
Duration: 1600-2045 UTC
Solar Indices: S.F. = 77 A Index = 15 K Index = 3 (but down to 2 at
1818) Minor space weather w/G1 level storms.
WX: Clear, sunny. Warm 50°56° F. (10°13° C.)
These freqs had audio at some level just after 1600: 6230, 6200, 6180,
6170, 6165, 6160 (Canada), 6155, 5120, 6110, 6090, 6085 (WYFR), 6075, 6065,
6050, 6035, 6015 (decent), 5995, 5990, 5980, 5970 (good), 5955,
5930. Carriers or threshold audio on almost all other channels!! The band
seemed to drop off a bit by 1630. The band picked back up and a few more
signals with audio showed up after 1700. By 1817 check, at least 2 dozen
signal w/audio were noted. And by 1920, respectable audio was noted on
nearly every channel on the band!!
At 1844, these signals started appearing using the 85° BOG; 5026, 4976,
4845, and 4780. At 1913, was getting signals on these freqs; 5030, 5026,
5005, 4976, 4950, 4940, 4845, 4780, and 4770. Oddly, the strongest signals
were 5026 and 4780 followed by 4976 and 4940.
EGYPT 6230 R. Cairo Already a signal w/audio (mx) at 1556, M anncr, then
AR mx to 5_1 (higher) time ticks at ToH, M very briefly w/pres. ID, mx
bridge, then tlk. (24 Nov.)
IRAN 6200 V.O. Islamic Rep. of Iran (pres.) 1602 tlk by M in mid-east
lang. M over AR mx at 1606. Fairly good and 100%. Very quick fading
though. (24 Nov.)
UNID. 6014.4 Carrier here at 1611. Still there on numerous checks and at
1911. Is this a station here or could it be an rx internally generated
signal?? (24 Nov.)
ALBANIA 5970 CRI relay Tlk by W in GM, then M anncr over mx w/poss. ID at
1614. 1615 canned ID by W, then M anncr again. Decent signal and pretty
good at 1706 check. (24 Nov.)
CUBA 5025 R. Rebelde 1616 Tlk by M in SP. 100% readable. A bit weaker
at 1654 but still readable. Actually heard all day long. (24 Nov.)
USA 5000 WWV Easily audible at 1617!! Pounding in on 85° BOG. (24 Nov.)
ZANZIBAR 11735 R. Tanzania Zanzibar 1636 only fair signal. (24 Nov.)
AUSTRIA 6155 R. Austria Int. 1642 mx, then M anncr in GM, and Tango-like
song. GM song at 1648. ID at 1700. (24 Nov.)
POLAND 6035 R. Polonia M and W in Euro-like lang at 1649. 1655 Macy
Gray song. M and W anncr then. 1657 end of pgm and off. (24 Nov.)
CLANDESTINE 6245 R. Zamaneh 1701 AR Pop-like mx, so I suppose this signs
on at 1700. Not hrd before.
UNID. 6235 UNID. Also on just after 1700. Who would that be?? R.
Rossii?? (24 Nov.)
PIRATE (NA) 6925U V.O. Influenza?? Big signal at 1720 w/what sounded
like Joe Cocker mx. Chipmunks Christmas song, stopped, then ?Toy Sack?
sung to B-52s ?Love Shack?. A couple more Christmas songs. Still going at
1749. (see below) (24 Nov.)
PIRATE (NA) 6925U V.O. Influenza relaying V.O. the Runaway
Maharishi?? 1813 VORM pgm w/Captain Ganja acknowledging reception
reports. Said was R. Free Euphoria but is now VORM. Requested 3 29 cent
stamps and mentioned freqs around 7420, so must?ve been an old show. (see
below) (24 Nov.)
LITHUANIA 6250 VOIRI via Lithuania Found here at 1730. (24 Nov.)
UNID. 6225 UNID. Found a signal here too at 1730. 1746 M tlk in
mid-east lang. Gone at 1803, so apparently a half hour xmsn. Who would
this be?? Kazahkstan?? (24 Nov.)
PIRATE (EUROPE) 6210 R. Borderhunter I setup a test with the operator of
R. Borderhunter to see how early Europirates could be heard here. At 1732
a definite carrier here until at least 1743, but not there at
1745. Extremely weak of course. That?s a full 4 hours and 20 minutes
before our local sunset!!!! Incredible!! Noted carrier again at the ToH
xmsn at 1801. It may have come on at 1800:30 but it wasn?t abrupt enough
to be certain to the second. Went off at exactly 1811:05!! A little
stronger when it came on for the 1830 xmsn at exactly 1830:55. Still not
strong enough for audio, although it sounded very much like a M anncr
briefly at 1835:50. Definitely audio at 1840, but it went off at
1840:50. Was a couple minutes late for the longer 1900 xmsn showing up at
exactly 1902:05. An echo anmnt and deep-voiced M anncr, which I found
later that this was the Borderhunter 2007 Summer Meeting jingle. Another
jingle 1803-1804. Only strains of audio after that. Came back at 1918 and
nothing was heard. (see below) (24 Nov.)
PIRATE (EUROPE) 6220 Mystery R. Getting a carrier here at early as
1804. Seemed similar in strength to Borderhunter on 6210 at this
time. Maybe a tad stronger at 1808. A little bit of mx at 1833!! Almost
3 and a half hours before sunset!! Long Techno-Dance mx much more audible
by 1852. Usual ID at 1910. Really impressive by 1935. (24 Nov.)
PIRATE (NA) 6925U V.O. Influenza 1847 IDs and addr, Dread Zeppelin song
anmnt, and into said song. Has to be same signal that?s been on since
1720. Strong. (24 Nov.)
PIRATE (EUROPE) 6205 R. Borderhunter Found on this freq at 1942 w/couple
nice Rock-a-Billy songs. 1952 clear short ID w/freq over Techno-Dance
mx. Instru. song. Also recognized ?Daddy Cool? by Boney M at 2007, ?The
Letter? by The Box Tops, ?I?m on Fire? by Bruce Springsteen at 2019, one by
Buddy Holly at 2023, and ?Odia? by CCR at 2035. Fady signal and dropped
down by 2017, and audio just weakly in and out by 2030. But by 2035 was
coming back slightly. Must?ve had a spike in the X-Ray flux. 2038
?Sultans of Swing? by Dire Straites. Not getting any better by 2045. (24
Nov.)
UNID. 5010 R. Madagascara?? 1958 signal w/audio, but almost as soon as I
tuned in, a pulsing UTE started. When I returned at 2001 it was gone. (24
Nov.)
UNID. 6285 V.O. Korea?? Something here at 2016. Threshold audio w/M
anncr. (24 Nov.)
UNID. 6067.75 V.O. Korea?? Getting a carrier here after 1100 but no
chance for audio because of horrible local static noise. Got the carrier
again at 1207 and definitely sounds like an Asia. V.O.Korea maybe?? (25 Nov.)
POLAND 9525 R. Polonia 1328- During their broadcast, I heard the pgm
hosts tlk abt the SW audience compared to their Internet audience. They
admitted there are more people listening on the Internet than on SW. Also
that they have had many complaints of poor SW reception over the recent
years. (25 Nov.)
UNID. 7120 Multiple RS IDs sounding like ?R. (sit-Eye-ah) by M and
W. Familiar IS but can?t recall the station!! Then M w/another ID and
into pres. nx. Fair over Wantok. (25 Nov.)
PIRATE (EUROPE) 15070.3v Cupid R. 1446-1656 Already on when I tuned in
w/more recent Pop mx. Recognized songs by Natalie Merchant and
Outfield. 1449 ID and hotline and song for Chris Smolinski. 1454 ID,
e-mail, and hotline number again. More anmnts including listener
acknowledgements at 1502, 1513, 1531, 1535, 1600, 1605, 1612, 1619, 1640,
1650. Played my ID anmnt at 1543 followed by another ID jingle. Still
going at 1656 although it appeared Rinus was giving closing anmnts. Nice
brief peak at 1507 but then almost abruptly faded out. Beautiful peak
1600-1606, but then faded way down after 1620. Annoying local ticking
noise until abruptly going off at 1551:17, only to return at 1635. (25 Nov.)
PIRATE (EUROPE) 6324.5 R. Waves Int. 2006 little bit of mx. 2007 M
anncr but not strong enough to copy. More mx. Like 6306, this faded after
2010. M anncr again briefly at 2022, W anncr at 2023. Later, at 2104,
caught the ?Caroline? theme song. 2106 sounded like an ID. 2107 ?Knock on
Wood? by Eddie Floyd. 2111 ?Stand by Me? by Ben E. King. 2113-2115 M w/UK
sounding accent over mx but not RWI anncr. Caroline pgm relay at this time
perhaps?? 2123 ?Our House? by Madness. 2131 M anncr but getting some SSB
QRM. 2132 finally nice ID ?This is RWI, Radio Waves Int?? and addr.
Horrible UTE QRM at 2137. 2150 ?It Never Rains in Southern California? by
Albert Hammond followe by M anncr. Dropped down by this time. Gone at
2157. (25 Nov.)
PIRATE (EUROPE) 3927 Spaceman R./R. Delmare Signal here and even some
very weak audio at 2014!!! Mx coming in at 2027 but several Hams were
tuning up. Strong enough to recognize songs by 2035. 2040-2044 two songs
by The Carpenters including ?On Top of the World?, and then maybe
another. 2049 Mr. Spaceman w/ID, ment of the Internet, hotline
0031-621-948070. 2059-2102 ?Hard Days Night?. 2126 ?The Sounds of
Philadelphia? by MSFB, 2128 ?Me and Mrs Jones? by Billy Paul, 2135 ?Free
Ride? by The Edgar Winter Group. 2136 Spaceman w/listener acknowledgements
and into Neil Diamonds ?Beautiful Noise?. 2139 acknowledgement of Mr.
Smart (Spaceman admitted he didn?t know his first name!!). 2145
?California Dreamin? remake. 2148-2150 Spaceman w/song anmnt and ID,
phone, e-mail. Going off and on at 2158 as if there were xmtr
problems. (25 Nov.)
CUBA 6420 R. Nac. De Venezuela via Cuba spur here too just like on
6300. Fortunately they go off at 0700. (26 Nov.)
PIRATE (EUROPE) 15070 Cupid R. Has been on the air Saturdays in the
1430-1630 time frame. Operator said he'd be on again this coming Saturday
(2 December). When its peaking, can have a pretty decent signal here in
eastern NA. Good audio too.
