[HCDX] BBC launches its first 24-hour English FM station in Kuwait

BBC launches its first 24-hour English FM station in Kuwait:
(BBC Press Release, 13.09.2006)

For the first time, listeners in Kuwait can now hear BBC World Service
programmes in English 24 hours a day, seven days a week since the launch of
the new FM station, BBC 100.1 FM.
Jerry Timmins, Head of Africa and Middle East Region, BBC World Service,
said: "This is the first fully dedicated BBC English relay on air in the
Gulf. Listeners in Kuwait can now hear, for the first time, the full range
of BBC programmes in English in crystal clear quality via the new BBC 100.1
FM station.
"This complements our existing 24/7 BBC Arabic relay on 90.1 FM and is a
further example of the long-standing and positive co-operation the BBC
enjoys with Kuwait."
Khalid Al-Tarrah, Director of the Kuwait Information Centre in London,
said: "We are delighted to have World Service broadcasting in Arabic and
now also in English from Kuwait.
"This represents a significant milestone in the wider dissemination of news
and current affairs programming in the region.
"This new agreement is a crowning moment in the well-established
co-operation between Kuwait's Ministry of Information and the BBC."
The programmes broadcast on BBC 100.1 FM range from health and sport to
business and music. They include the BBC's flagship programme Newshour,
which is 60 minutes of news and analysis of the day's top stories from the
BBC's most experienced correspondents; Outlook, which brings human interest
stories from across the globe; and World, Have Your Say - the daily
multimedia interactive phone-in programme encouraging people across the
world to question experts and leading international figures in the news.
