[HCDX] Prasar Bharti aims for financial independence
Prasar Bharti would soon become financially
independent as its revenue has been growing
substantially every year, CEO of the public
broadcaster K S Sarma said on Saturday.
Speaking after launching the ?Rainbow Krishnaveni? FM
channel, aimed at attracting the youth, Sarma said All
India Radio has targeted a revenue of Rs 400 crore
this year as against Rs 270 crore last year, while
Doordarshan, which had earned Rs 980 crore last year
is expected to earn Rs 1200 crore this fiscal.
"If our earnings grow like this, soon we will be
financially independent", he said. There were 230
stations of All India Radio in India, out of which 130
have the facilities to launch FM channels, he said.
The channel ?Rainbow Krishnaveni? would highlight
local issues and specially attract the youngsters of
the city, he said.
Sarma said more FM channels would be introduced in
Andhra Pradesh in places like Adilabad, Macherla,
Karimnagar, Srikakulam, Nellore, Mahaboobnagar and
Suryaraopet. Sarma said the Direct-To-Home (DTH),
which is gaining popularity, at present beams
programmes in twelve languages and soon would be
available in eight more languages.
