Radio Mirchi plans presence across India
Entertainment Network (India) Limited, (ENIL), a Times
Group company, which owns the country's leading radio
broadcasting brand 'Radio Mirchi', will further
participate in the government's bidding process, to
expand its footprint in the country. ENIL is entering
the capital market to raise around Rs 213 crore by
offering Rs 1.32 crore shares, including 12 lakh
greenshoe option, in the price band of Rs 144 to Rs
162.

Launch of new FM stations to begin from August It?s
good news for music lovers with 120 new FM frequencies
having been given to private players thus far under
the phase II policy of the FM Radio Broadcasting.
Although successful bidders have been given 18 months,
from the date of signing the grant of permission
agreement, to make their stations operational, it
seems new stations will begin to see the light of day
in less than a year.

Prasar Bharati bags radio rights for the ongoing
Indo-Pak cricket series
Prasar Bharati has succeeded in obtaining radio rights
for broadcasting live commentary of the India-Pakistan
cricket series, which is currently underway in
Pakistan. All India Radio will broadcast running
commentary of the second and third Test matches as
well as the five One Day Internationals that will
follow. The commentary will be available on AIR FM
Gold Channels in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai as
well as 65 other medium wave stations spread across
the country.

Business Standard to sign content sharing deal with
NDTV
Financial daily Business Standard is in talks with
NDTV to sign a content sharing deal with its business
channel, NDTV Profit. Confirming the development,
Business Standard, President, Akila Urankar, informed
that the dialogue was still not at a stage where
specific details around the relation could be
divulged.

Newspapers can publish foreign articles, rules High
Court
The Delhi High Court has held that restricting the
publication of syndicated articles and features by
foreign writers and journalists in various newspapers
and magazines in India was against the freedom of
speech and expression under the Fundamental Rights
(Article 19) enumerated in the Constitution. While
observing that freedom of press need not be tested on
nationality, Justice Vikramjit Sen said the government
in a circular could not restrict the publication of
syndicated articles and features of the foreign
publications in Indian newspapers, magazines and
periodicals.

Adlabs bags 14 FM frequencies in East
Anil Ambani backed Adlabs continues to dominate the
FM-II radio bidding for the eastern states by bagging
14 frequencies in 17 cities at an estimated investment
of Rs 4 crore. Till date, Adlabs have got 40 radio
stations out of 58 it had bid for at an estimated
investments of over Rs 115 crore. The bidding on
Friday saw the allottment of 48 frequencies with
government earning Rs 20.70 crore in revenue. The
phase wise bidding is part of the exercise undertaken
by the ministry of information and broadcasting for
allotting 337 frequencies to private companies in 91
cities across India.

BIDDING FOR 66 PVT. FM RADIO IN EASTERN STATES
CONCLUDES
The bidding for the second phase of private FM radio
for 17 cities spread across Eastern Zone took place
here today. In all, 59 bids were received for 66
frequencies. Of these, 48 bids prima facie qualified.
A revenue of over Rs. 20.70 crores by way of one time
entry fee is expected from today?s bidding. With this,
165 frequencies have been allotted against 206
available frequencies. In today?s bidding, Patna
received the highest bid amount at Rs. 5.13 crore. The
bids were received from the prospective bidders in the
morning session and opened in the afternoon in the
presence of representatives of all bidding companies.

The growth in the FM radio business over the next few
years should be strong and that should keep Radi
Mirchi in good stead. Entertainment Network India
Ltd (ENIL), promoted by Bennett, Coleman and Company,
is making an Initial Public Offering (IPO) of equity
shares.

Film ministry archives in VCD, DVDs
Films Division of the Ministry of Information and
Broadcasting is in the process of compiling an archive
of around 8100 films and rare footages in its
possession, said Raghu Krishna, Director, Mumbai
International Film Festival (MIFF) and Chief Producer
of Films Division at a press meet on MIFF. "We are
planning to compile an archive and convert old and
rare footages into video compact disc (VCD) and
digital video disc (DVD) formats. For this purpose,
the material has been divided into three categories.
'Most precious' is the category we will try to
transfer to high-definition film, while the 'precious'
and 'normal' categories will be transferred to
standard definition film", said Krishna.

I&B to set up radio towers in seven cities
In an effort to upgrade infrastructure, the
information and broadcasting ministry's standing
finance committee on Monday cleared a project for
setting up towers in seven cities. The estimated cost
of the project is above Rs 18 crore and towers will be
set up in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad,
Bangalore and Jaipur. The project has already received
Cabinet clearance.

BAG Films bags FM radio rights in Jharkhand & Bihar
The recent announcement of FM Radio has declared
another major landmark achieved by one of the leading
production house B.A.G Films Ltd. The company has
bagged the FM radio rights for Ranchi &
Muzaffarpur.With these cities B.A.G has now a total of
6 cities to place FM radio stations. The other cities
are Hissar, Karnal, Shimla & Patiala.

India's Marans to sell 20% in Sun TV
The Marans plan to dilute up to 20 per cent equity in
their broadcasting venture, Sun TV, through a
combination of private placement with foreign
investors and an initial public offer.The company has
sought the approval of the Foreign Investment
Promotion Board for bringing in the foreign investors,
though it has not finalised their names. Once the IPO
is done, it will place equity to foreign investors to
take the total equity dilution to 20 per cent.

FM radio bidding: Govt expects over Rs 20.7 cr
The Government has said that it expects to garner over
Rs 20.7 crore as entry fee from private players (in
the second phase) bidding for FM radio in the Eastern
Zone. The bidding for the second phase of private FM
radio in 17 cities in the Eastern Zone took place here
on Friday, said a statement. In all, 59 bids were
received for 66 frequencies and 48 bids qualified
(prima facie).

Times Now Channel on Reliance handsets
In the world's first launch of a TV channel on mobile
phone, Reliance IndiaMobile India customers watched
Times Now, a 24-hour news channel of Times Group and
Reuters on their handsets across ten cities in the
country.The channel will be available for television
viewers on cable network shortly.Speaking on the
occasion in a video conference, Times Global
Broadcasting Company Chief Executive Officer Sunil
Lulla said the channel targeted the urbanites, having
the need to access news and other information while on
the move.
