[HCDX] New Radio Heritage Columns visit Pitcairn and Adelaide
---------------------------------------------------------------
Adrian Peterson's new columns visit Pitcairn Island and wartime
Adelaide at www.radioheritage.net
---------------------------------------------------------------
Renowned radio historian and broadcaster, Dr Adrian Peterson
continues his regular monthly columns at www.radioheritage.net.
In the latest in his 'Reminiscing with a Radio' and 'Radio to the
Rescue' series, he writes about early broadcasting on remote Pitcairn
Island, and about wartime visits to local radio in Adelaide, South
Australia.
Pitcairn has relied on radio for emergency contact with the world
since the early days of radio broadcasting. Adrian explores some of
this history, and adds some unique images from his collection.
These include PITC Radio in the 1930's, and ZKG the Royal NZ Air
Force WWII radio station. Another image from the early 1950's shows
the inside of the local Pitcairn Island amateur radio ham shack.
In the January 2006 column at www.radioheritage.net, Adrian takes
readers inside the local commercial and government radio stations in
Adelaide during WWII.
Having 'inside' contacts made all the difference, and enabled him to
get beyond the barbed wire and the barricades in this unique look at
how Australian broadcasters operated under wartime conditions.
As usual, lots of great images accompany the column, including rare
old QSL cards from stations such as 5KA and 5DN.
The Radio Heritage Foundation is expanding its columns in 2006, with
guest columnists and more regulars joining Adrian Peterson.
Enjoyable reading this year, personal viewpoints about radio
broadcasting around the Pacific, only in the 'columns' at
www.radioheritage.net.
