New traffic radio channel in Dhaka soon to check road
accidents

The government has decided to introduce traffic radio
channel soon to ease ever increasing congestion,
curbing road accidents and enforcing traffic rules and
regulation properly in the roads and highways.

The decision was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting
with communications secretary Mohammed Shafiqul Islam
in the chair, an 
official handout said. 

Representatives from the Ministry of Information,
Ministry of Home Affairs, Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh
Television, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority
(BRTA), Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation(BRTC),
Roads and Highways Directorate, Dhaka Transport
Coordination Board (DTCB) and leaders of transport
related organizations were present in the meeting. 

The meeting decided to extend technical cooperation to
Bangladesh Radio for introduction of traffic radio
channel. It also took decision to provide necessary
plans and communication gadgets to Radio along with
developing infrastructures.

Official sources said the radio channel would work in
the city in the first phase. Later the traffic channel
will cover the whole country to broadcast traffic
flow-related messages.
