[HCDX] Logs from Île-Bizard

Yesturday late afternoon / early evening we spent a nice time in Île-Bizard, a place about 15 minutes from my home QTH on the Edward Higgins street in Pierrefonds-Est, this is where my girlfriend Anne-Marie Tsen-Valiquet lives (though she`s currently in a holiday in Texas).

We went there on a sort of mini-DXpedition and while my father was swimming and afterwards watching the beautifool red sunset, I did a lot of intense shortwave DX`ing and managed two new loggings and also two other tentative logs wich would have been new if I could got an ID on these. Before we installed the long-wire antenna, I did a little bit of FM DX, as there was tropo ducting to the Ottawa area and to Lake Placid, NY.


Here are the results of this highly succesfull mini-DXpedition:

4915 GHANA, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation - Radio One AUG 20 2250 - Weak signal w/ African programming, slightly under what was at the time a barely stronger ZY signal. (Chiochiu-Î-B-QC)

4915 BRAZIL, Radio Anhanguera, Gôiana AUG 20 2331 - w/ "futbol" game. Very good reception, // 4985 and 11815. (Chiochiu-Î-B-QC)

4985 BRAZIL, Radio Brasil Central, Gôiana AUG 20 2332 - w/ futbol, //11815 and 4915. (Chiochiu-Î-B-QC)

5000 VENEZUELA, YVTO, Caracas AUG 20 2329 - Very tentative; bits of time pips on a signal w/ very intense fadings. Occasionally peaking to poor / fair, but often extremely weak. Way too early for WWV, so almost certainly YVTO ! (Chiochiu-Î-B-QC)

5010 DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, Radio Cristal Internacíonal, Santo Domingo AUG 20 2334 - noted relaying the 1510 kHz MW outlet in Santo Domingo w/ man announcing "...Canal Quinze-Diez, Miercoles veinte..." (Channel Fifteen-Teen, On Wensday Twenty of August) followed by meringue and salsa music. Heard a meringue cover version of the Cristian Castro`s Cada Momento AC hit (or maybe the Mexican singer Cristian Castro has done a soft-rock remake of this meringue tune ?) followed by a salsa tune. The reception deteriorated dramatically during the salsa tune as my father was desinstalling the long-wire antenna. (Chiochiu-Î-B-QC)

6025 DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, Radio Amanecer Internacíonal, Santo Domingo AUG 20 2309 - Tentative; extremely poor with inspirational music w/ very intense splatter from Marti-6030. This one would have been a new one here ! (Chiochiu-Î-B-QC)

6060 ARGENTINA, RAE, Buenos Aires AUG 20 2312 - Pgm of instrumental tangoes, //15345. Fair signal, but with increasing splatter from 6065 (SIO 332). Relog. No sign of Italy at all. Is RAI Radio Due inactive on SW ? (Chiochiu-Î-B-QC)

6160 CANADA, CKZN, CBC Radio 1, St. John`s, Labrador-NF AUG 20 2244-2247 - Fair signal with fadings and minor to occasionally moderate splatter from 6165; talk about the war in Iraq, followed by "You listening to CBC Radio One" ID, then talk about "higher politics". New here ! (Chiochiu-Î-B-QC)

6180 BRAZIL, Radio Nacional do Brasil AUG 20 2247 - with a really huge signal ! (Chiochiu-Î-B-QC)

9645 BRAZIL, Radio Bandeirantes, Sao Paulo AUG 20 2258 - Brazilian music selections, followed by a promo with "Radio Jornal" and "Bandeirantes" mentions, then full legal IDs for their "frecuencia modulada" (MW) and "onda corta" (SW) frequencies on 49MB, 31MB and 25MB, followed by talk pgm. They apparently switched from 9645.9 to 9645, as reception was better on 9645 than on 9646. (Chiochiu-Î-B-QC)

11815 BRAZIL, Radio Anhanguera, Gôiana AUG 20 - Very good signal with relatively few fadings, each time when checked ! (Chiochiu-Î-B-QC)

11925 BRAZIL, Radio Bandeirantes, Sao Paulo AUG 20 2319 - with programming //9645. Very poor signal with splatter from a super-strong signal on 11915, 10 kHz away ! (Chiochiu-Î-B-QC)  

15345 ARGENTINA, RAE, Buenos Aires AUG 20 2312 - Pgm of instrumental tangoes, //6060. Almost excellent signal with few fadings and a SIO of at least 444. Best ever reception of this one wich at this time (6:30 PM - 8:00 PM +/-) behave much like a major international broadcaster. (Chiochiu-Î-B-QC)

101.1 CANADA, CFMO XFM, Smith Falls, ON AUG 20 2224 - Excellent reception w/ rhythmic rock music. (Chiochiu-Î-B-QC)

106.3 UNITED STATES, Lake Placid, NY AUG 20 2226 - playing Don`t Know Why by Norrah Jones followed by "Y106.3 ..." non-ID and phone-ins from a listener that saied that the 1986 Peter Gabriel - In Your eyes hit was the best love song ever in her opinion, followed by this Peter Gabriel song about wich he talked. Very strong ! First time heard on any radio other than the car-radio (where I get them in and out almost all the time, via tropo-scatter) (Chiochiu-Î-B-QC) + around 8PM strong on the car radio playing music like Intuition by Jewel and frequent non-IDs like "Y106.3 the best mix of the 80`s, 90`s and today" until fading down in strenght and mixing with TrS CBV signal - I was in a parking at 8:11 PM while my father went shopping for eating and heard Beautifool by Christina Aguilera as well as the UB40 1994 cover version of the Will To Power 1988 hit Baby, I Love Your Way (by the way Will To Power was mainly a freestyle / Latin hip-hop group with dance hits like Dreamin` and Say It`s Gonna Rain; Baby I love Your Way was their only ballad) followed by a querry with a female listener about what girls love the most - I didn`t wait for the answers because the reception has gotten too bad. (Chiochiu-on the road).
