[HCDX] Listener's Initiative for Radio Austria International
The Austrian government ceased financing "Radio Austria International"
(ROI) at the end of 2001 and left it up to the discretion of the
Austrian public broadcaster, the ORF, to provide an international
service at its own expense. The ORF does not regard such a service as
part of its core obligations and points to its own financial
constraints.
European listeners' associations are making an appeal to the ORF's
executive body, the "Stiftungsrat" or board of trustees, to ensure the
continuation of ROI. At the same time the members of the Stiftungsrat
were asked to make their decision public.
Letters were sent to every member of the board; you can read the text
as well as the result of the poll on radio-portal (links have been
established on the English and German start pages).
Answers are expected to arrive not before next week, though.
Editors who want to report about this initiative are invited to let me
know - thanks beforehand!
Regards,
Willi Passmann
