Hello !
Average to good Latin American reception the
past few days, even tonight a bit. Now, it seems my 3 most regular
Pan-American stations are: RVC-530, RFO-640 and YVKS-750. RCN on 760 is really
running low-power. Thursday night, before going to a week-end camp in
St.-Alphonse de Rodriguez I heard a weak tropical music station was
either Venezuela or Costa Rica, most likely Venezuela because 640 was
in with a good signal at that time. In St.-Alphonse de Rodriguez, I did bring my
great Sanyo MCD-S830 portable receiver, but the Latin American reception was
weak at best; I think it is too inland and the relief is too sharply to get
decent overseas reception with relatively modest equipment, and the slightly to
moderate auroral conditions did'n't encourage me to get RFO-1375 from
St.-Pierre either.
For those who don't know St.Alphonse de Rodriguez
is located 90 kilometers north-north-east of Montreal, in the Lanaudière
administrative region of Quebec. It is a pacefull small town of around 15,000
habitants. It do not have any local AM/FM stations; but some semi-locals (except
for CJWI-1610 wich has a verry weak groundwave signal, on day-time reception;
all the Montreal stations are strong both day and night).
The logs marked Chiochiu-QC are made in Montreal
and the logs marked Chiochiu-St.A-R*QC are made in St. Alphonse (de
Rodriguez). Into the logs now:
530 Turks and Caicos, Radio Vision Cristiana
- NOV 7 0028 - Verry good; spanish pop-style religious song, "La
emisora de Dios" jingle, then into man talk
with a folk-style religious song in the background saluting listeners in the
Dominican Republic (Chiochiu-QC) + NOV 9 0032 - man preaching in spanish; poor
at best and almost completely faded away 6 minutes later
(Chiochiu-St.A-R*QC).
600 Cuba, Radio Rebelde, Urbano Norris - NOV 7 0049
- Man speach in spanish; poor to occasionnally fair, slightly over some noises
QRM (Chiochiu-QC).
640 Venezuela, YVQO Union Radio, Puerto-La Cruz,
Anzoàtegui - NOV 7 2354 - IDs and promos, ID @
2359 mentioning "...solo por Union Radio, La radio de Noticías", then
into nx report from La Paz including a telephone correspondance from a
reporter in La Paz; fair and atop channel for a couple of
minutes (Chiochiu-QC). + NOV 8 -briefly note an "Union Radio" mention
with a verry weak signal; faded only after a few seconds to a
non-intelligible level; did'n't note the exact time
(Chiochiu-St.A-R*QC)
640 Guadeloupe, RFO, Pointe-à-Pitre - NOV 7 0006 -
faded in in an even mix with YVQO with Cuba and poss. WNNZ way underneath;
Carribbean-FF mx selections by a man in creole; the signal did gradually
fade-up, after 2 minutes, it was way over YVQO; fading in and out the Venezuelan
and Cuban QRM for nearly an hour carribbean french music selections by a
man in accented french. (Chiochiu-QC) + NOV 12 0211 - Nx in french with a
mention of Guadeloupe; good to fair signal (Chiochiu-QC).
650 Colombia, RCN Antena Dos, Bogota - NOV 12 2248

670 Venezuela, YVLL Radio Rumbos - NOV 7 0116 -
Loteria de Tachira numbers; nx, then "Deportivo Rumbos", "...Radio Rumbos,
la emisora de Venezuela" ID at 0142;
Pretty good reception. (Chiochiu-QC)
750 Venezuela, YVKS, Caracas - NOV 7 0135 -
Baseball game, break for ads about that time ; verry good signal.
(Chiochiu-QC) Note: The same channel had only a poor WSB signal in
St.-Alphonse.
760 unID - NOV 7 0034 - Trop. mx. with man ancr.;
weak reception. YVQQ in Puerto Ordaz (Bolivar state) is the most likely

900 (t) Mexico, XEW, Mexico - NOV 7 0152 - SS
talk by a man; weak to very weak signal (Chiochiu-QC).
That's it for now !,
