Hello !
I was 3 days away in St.-Alphonse de Rodriguez
(from Friday night to Monday afternoon) (95 kilometers, NNE of my West Island
Montreal QTH) with my Phillips LW-MW transistor radio. Aside from CARACOL-810,
no Latins were heard. Of course, I was in a kind of Thanks Giving Day camp, so I
have'n't do much DX-ing after 10 PM, when I get the best of my DX here; but
still it was funny to do AM listening from a place where there is no LOCAL
stations.
Even here in Montreal, LA DX-ing was'n't verry
good, except for the October 10 evening, when I got Guadeloupe and Ecuador on
640 kHz, 2 new countries ! I can't believe I heard Ecuador on a portble radio;
since now the AM band is so crowded; Quito-640 is one of the fewest
ecuadorians that are still heard from time to time in North America. I
wonder if the strong HC in Guyaquil on 540, Radio Tropicana, is still on. I
have seen verry old logs of this stations, at the time I was'n't even
born. In the early to mid 90's it was still reported from time to time in
eastern NA, but in the post-1997 logs, there are no more logs of
this anymore; 540 is clear here with CBEF verry easily nulled;
tonight however, it sounds like there is a strong aurora; the only skywave
signals are WPTR-1540 and a weak AU subdued WQEW-1560 earlier this evening; now
near local mid-night there are more stations audible, but still the only
reliable LAm signal is RVC-530

530 TURKS AND CAICOS Radio Vision Cristiana OCT 10
0214 - end of a rel. song, then man preaching in SS. Fairly good signal, but
with adjacent QRM from a neighborhood computer that transmit interferences on
528 kHz (approx). (BC-PQ)
640 VENEZUELA Union Radio, YVQO OCT 10 0206 - Nx in
SS; poor in mess with others. (BC-PQ)
640 GUADELOUPE RFO, Pointe-à-Pitre OCT 10 0208 -
talk pgm in FF creole beetwen 2 mans about the public radio in France; poor
to occasionnally fair; over Venezuela, but in fight with Ecuador.

640 ECUADOR Radio Nacíonal, HCXY1, Quito OCT 10
0209 - SS talk by a man, heard 4 mentions of Radio Nacíonal by this man; poss.
mention of Ecuador. Fair to poor signal, mixing with RFO.

750 VENEZUELA Radio Caracas Radio, YVKS, Caracas
OCT 0249 - SS talk pgm; weak fadey signal with WSB even
weaker underneath (BC-PQ).

The encoding cable had broken a few months ago. My
parents will have to buy a new one this week-end, so I will be able to encode
the 640 stuff in real-audio.
