Re: [HCDX] Languages?

Are Philippine/Filipino and Tagalog the same language? Also Vatican state
they transmit in Scandinavian - does anyone know what language this actually
is or is it a mix of languages from that part of the world.

Sean,
no such thing as a "Scandinavian language". Situation is quite complex up there as far as idioms are concerned. Vatican broadcasts mainly in Swedish with Finnish (maybe Estonian too) and now Danish inserts. Look at http://www.vaticanradio.org/scandinavo/svedese.htm.

Pilipino should be just an alternate name for Tagalog, while Filipino - as a more stable and official language I suppose - should be "evolved" from it in the future. When in doubt, always refer to the "Ethnologue" as one of the best linguistic source on the Net: http://www.ethnologue.com/show_language.asp?code=TGL

Cheers, Andy
