Hi everyone;
I had a fairly decent opening for DUs this morning (8/23). The best I
have seen in months. I did have some pesky powerline noise though to
deal with that happens once in a while.

Samoan talk and Island type mx at 1250 UTC 8/23. (PM-OR)
549 NEW ZEALAND, Kaitaia/Gisborne Radio Rhema presume the source of
the soft hymn and man talking at 1356 8/23. Lots of KMVI-550 splash.

1320, spots of truck dealer on Maui 8/23. S9+30DB. (PM-OR)
558 FIJI, Naulu, Radio Fiji one with kind of a disco sounding island
mx at 1340 8/23. Man in Fijian. (PM-OR)
567 NEW ZEALAND, Wellington 2YA , National Radio good at 1304 with
News 823. (PM-OR)
570 HAWAII, Lihue, KQNG, good on top of KVI with Dr. Joy Brown show
and "KONG" mention at 1315 8/23. Best heard in a long time. (PM-OR)
576 NEW ZEALAND/AUSTRALIA, a mix here at 1330 with Southern Star
w/soft mx and a female talking on 2RN-Sydney. Southern Star was a bit

590 HAWAII, Honolulu KSSK, very good on top with pop mx and "AM
590, Hawaii's KSSK" at 1335 8/23 (PM-OR)

792 AUSTRALIA, Brisbane 4RN, good on top with woman in Aussie
accent at 1350 8/23. Slight hum on channel. (PM-OR)
891 AUSTRALIA, Adelaide 5AN, good with talk show at 1300 8/23. UNID
native talk underneath. Is Fifi back on? (PM-OR)
900 HAWAII, Kahului KNUI, very very strong. The best Hawaiian on
the morning at S9+30+ DB with great Hawaii pops and many "AM 900 KNUI"
IDs noted many times between 1250-1400 UTC 8/23. (PM-OR)
909 NEW ZEALAND, Napier, Southern Star //576 in passing, soft mx, at

936 AUSTRALIA, Brisbane-4PB fair with woman in discussion of crime at

t954 AUSTRALIA, Sydney 2UE presumed the talk in splatter weakly at

1008 NEW ZEALAND, Auckland 1ZB fair with News talk at 1256 8/23.

1017 TONGA, fair at 0710 8/23 with woman in Togan. (PM-OR)
t1071 AUSTRALIA, Maryborough, presumed the soft EZL mx and spot at
1341 UTC 8/23. This one pops in often when cx are good running 5 KW with
a lobe this way. (PM-OR)
1116 AUSTRALIA, Brisbane 4BC, very good holding on well even with
splatter from KPNW-1120 with talk, mention by woman of "Talk radio
1116" gave phone numbers, 8/23 1352. They are much stronger than they
used to be. Back in the 80s, 4BC was not all that common. With a signal
like this, this will probably be one of the easiest commercial Brisbane
stations. 5 KW with a lobe this way per the pattern book. A possible one
to make it inland. (PM-OR)
1152 FIJI, Rakiraki Radio Fiji one at 1357 8/23. Fair with man in
Fijian. (PM-OR)
t1179 AUSTRALIA, Melbourne 3RPH presume the odd mx at 1339 but too
much splatter and lost soon after 8/23. (PMOR)
1206 AUSTRALIA, Grafton 2GF good with News at 1400 and "2GF" ID 8/23

Not much above 1206 this morning, except a het on 1611. I may have been
able to pull some other stuff out, but the noise level was a bit high
from the powerlines.
