[HCDX] WFLA
Two things regarding WFLA:
1. The Maitland, Florida address Gisle Vanem quoted is NOT
the address for WFLA. The 540 kHz station using the "WFLA"
slogan is licened as WFLF, Pine Hills, Florida. They --
like the 'real' WFLA in Tampa, Florida (970 kHz) are owned
by Clear Channel. They have several MW stations in Central
Florida loosely linked in a network, that is, some
programming is simulcast and thus the "WFLA" branding. So,
if you heard 970 and not 540, you're using the wrong
address. If you did hear 540, you've got the correct one.
The 970 address in my previous HCDX submission is correct.
2. Marie Lamb's reference to 25,870: in fact, the STL
transmitter on 25,870 kHz ***is*** intended for worldwide
listening when propagation allows. Of course, they will not
state this in writing as it is indeed not licensed as a SWBC
station. However, it has (for many years) broadcast 24/7.
There is (or at least was) a dipole on the roof of the Gandy
studios that was for this transmitter.
