Not exactly. They're "playing politics" as well as music :-) Perhaps this
item we published in Media Network last week will help you understand what's
going on :-)

Scramble for Frequencies Begins in The Netherlands
3 April 2002
The coming months are expected to see increasingly frantic activity on the
Dutch radio dial, as a mixture of has-been and would-be radio entrepreneurs
jockey for an advantageous position in the reallocation of frequencies, due
later this year. Some familiar names have already returned to the air. Q the
Beat, which closed down its mediumwave service on 1224 kHz last year because
it wasn't reaching its target group, fired up its transmitter again at the
end of March in an effort to persuade the government that it deserves of a
couple of FM frequencies. The station's director, Leontien van der Meer,
says they'll stay on the air till a decision is announced, but if they're
unsuccessful that will be the end of Q the Beat.

Meanwhile, a famous name is back on some Dutch cable systems. At 1600 UTC on
2 April, Veronica returned in a number of areas including Hilversum, after a
year's absence following the station's exit from the Holland Media Group,
and the collapse of a deal with another Dutch broadcaster. Veronica will
also return to Dutch TV screens later this month, for a few hours a day via
the popular music channel TMF. For the past year, Veronica has only been
visible through its Web site and its weekly radio & TV programme guide,
which remains the largest-selling magazine in The Netherlands. HMG continues
to operate the services previously branded as Veronica. Despite the
unfortunate choice of name, Yorin, the services have thrived, and Veronica
will have quite a task to win back former viewers and listeners.
