[HCDX] Who is now on 4980 kHz ?
Radio Ecos del Torbes from Venezuela on 4980 kHz has
been one of my long time favorites. But last weekend
I had a big surprise. On Saturday, Feb. 23, I tuned
to 4980 kHz around 00:00 UTC and instead of the
familar voice in Spanish and tropical music there was
another station in unidentified language which was
definitely NOT Ecos del Torbes. I tried again on
Saturday evening and Sunday morning with the same
result. Instead of Ecos del Torbes there is now some
other station, which language I have not been able to
identify. I checked Passport 2002 and there is no
other station listed under this frequency. The ILG
database lists Radio Xinjiang under 4980 kHz but
before (until last week) they have never been a
problem. Does anybody have similar "problem" with
Ecos del Torbes?
On the other hand, I spent several hours listening to
Radio Nacional de Paraguay on 9737 kHz. Excellent
traditional Paraguayan music. Great station.
Requires some twiking to ger rid of interference from
BBC on 9740 kHz, but the lower sideband synch. mode on
my Lowe HF-150 does an excellent job in this area.
