Alerted by the FCC's listing of call sign changes, this morning I
caught an ID for "WGYM-1580, ESPN Radio". The call was recently switched
from 1490 in Pleasantville, NJ. The latter now picks up the call
formerly on 1490 in Atlantic City - WUSS. It was running syndicated talk
under WEST this morning, but no ID.
Also ( which I can't check until WIP-610 goes to night pattern )
former WJWR-620 in Newark has been granted a change to WSNR.

600 KOGO-CA San Diego Was talk, now talk //KOGO-FM 94.5 (Temecula,
CA, ex-KTMK)
1450 KSPA-CA Escondido Was NOS, to be classical 5/1 (KFSD-92.1 format
moves here)
1620 "KCR"-CA San Diego San Diego State station is off, another victim
of XEUT-1630.
The KOGO situation is fairly bizarre. Temecula is over 60 miles from
San Diego but lots of people who work in San Diego live there for
cheaper housing. The San Diego-Tijuana market has a local station on
94.5, so KOGO-FM is not audible in San Diego!

Quick note to advise my local KXOJ-1550 Sapulpa, OK off the air today.
First noted off this AM around 10:00am and still off at re-check a few
minutes ago at 5:30pm. KXOJ's antenna is only 5 miles from my house,
closest of the local AMs...will be frequenting 1540, 1550 and 1560 this

KWFS 1290 Wichita Falls TX has been dominating 1290 the past few
nights here in SW MO, usually not heard at all. Usually hear KKAR Omaha.
They must be on day pattern.
Also local KOCR 1310 has been silent for over a week.

Hello from Trollhättan, Sweden
612 Apr-18 2103 Radio Boznia-Hercegovia, Sarajevo. QSA 3 and the
Irish 2-FM almost absent. Sarajevo had a radio play until 2115,
then went on with good old jazz music. I wonder if they really
are on with all their 600 kW as they seldom manage to outwit
the Irish station. From 2140 they were again the underdog, and a
third station in Arabic (?) wanted to have its say, too.

Since Easter I observe the German transmitter (Mainflingen) on 1539
kHz on the air quite late in the night (ex s/off at local midnight which
is now 2200 UTC during DST). Yesterday I heard it before 0100 UTC,
during Easter holidays it was on even later I think...
I am not sure about the program relayed in the night...
Maybe it is good news for our friends DXing from the east coast of
North America (if Spain is not too strong on this frequency).

Heard on a CCRadio barefoot:
900 XEW MEXICO, Mexico City, DF 4/15 0548 with ID nueve cien XEW,
Mexico, Cadena doublay oo [W]. Then Mexican easy listening music.
1120 KMOX MO, St. Louis 4/24 0156 with announcer that sounds like
Lionel. Ad for golf course at Norwood Country Club 314-977-8180.
Ad for a garden show and Buckheit [?] Landscaping. [ rare ]
1130 CKWX BC, Vancouver 4/24 0151 A Canadian! They are nearly
impossible to hear here! With traffic and weather. A woman was
the traffic announcer and a man was the weather announcer. Got an
ID. As far as I am concerned, getting a Canadian here is so hard
and that makes it foreign to me!
1140 KGEM ID, Boise with "Music and Memories, K-GEM." Then playing
"Call Me".
1380 KTKZ CA, Sacramento 4/23 0708 with a traffic and then weather
report for Sacramento, Stockton and the surrounding areas. The
traffic and weather reporters were female.
1510 KMXN CA, Ontario 4/18 2230 and Angels baseball v. the Mariners.
Rick Lewis, moderator of AMFMTVDX pointed this out to me during a
phone call. First time heard with these calls. KFNN Mesa, AZ was
off the air.

680 KOMW WA, Omak, heard with NOS mx before s.off at 2230-2245, not
AC, 4/21. A fomat change? (PM-OR)
1310 KEIN MT. Great Falls, hrd with WW1 NOS format at 2225 EDT 4/21.
When did they change from C&W? (PM-OR)
1390 KJME CO, Denver, rec. very loud at times with distorted audio, SS
with ancr saying "Buenos Dias Denver" and ID with "KJME, Denver"
at 0701 EDT 4/24. Mentions of slogan "La Jota Mexicana" a few
times. (PM-OR)
1450 KSUH WA, Puyallup, heard with dual IDS for KSUH and KWYZ with
time pips to the hour, KK format at 2300 EDT 4/20. Haven't hrd
this since they were KAYE years ago. (PM-OR)
1660 KQWB ND, West Fargo, good and on top most of the time with Adult
Standards and "We're Star 1660, KQWB" IDs at 0445 EDT 4/24.
1660 KRZI TX, Waco good on top at 0550 4/24 with "Texas morning" News
program. At 0549 "Contact KRZI during normal business hours...."
1660 KWSJ MO, Kansas City, heard poorly with Classical mx buried
u/KXOL for the most part, but with carefull phasing I could get
bits and pieces of KWSJ. At 0515 EDT 4/24, heard a low keyed male
ancr say after a classical piece "K-W-?-J", then lost under KXOL.
Then at 0534 EDT, heard the same ancr say ".....with the
transmitter.......Kansas City.....16-60......." Then lost again.
This may have been some test, as few stations give info on
transmitter in reg. programming. New. KXOL is a real tough
powerhouse to get through! (PM-OR)
1660 KWSJ MO, Kansas City, heard with Classical mx, mostly buried
under powerhouse KXOL 4/25, but at 0515 EDT I heard "...K-W-?-J",
lost under KXOL, Then at 0534 "...With the transmitter....Kansas
City....16-60..." The ancr was low keyed with the Classical
music. This might have been a test, as stations don't mention
their transmitter with reg. programming much. New. KXOL is sure a
toughie to get by. (PM-OR)
1660 WGIT PR, Canovanas, hrd off and on with older SS ballads, mostly
buried by the others on the channel, but at 0454 EDT 4/24, a
woman ancr ".......WGIT, Amor....." Lost in the jumble. (PM-OR)
1660 WMIB FL, Marco, at 0441 4/24 with Adult Standards and ID "If you
like what you are hearing, tell a friend about us, 1660-WMIB."
1660 WQSN MI, Kalamazoo, with ID at 0453 with Sports talk "Right here
on WQSN", Sports promo 4/24. (PM-OR)

1490 WMRN in Marion OH was real loud this morning with news and
information from 6:30 to 6:45. Also heard, which is unusual,
was 1470 WLQR in Toledo OH. WLQR was heard with spots for Toledo
and announcer ID "6:45 at WLQR, Toledo".
Now the unknown..... while tuning around I caught a Carpenter's song
on 1320. When I went to 1310, there was the same song. After the
Carpenter's song ended, a Three Dog Night song came on, again on both
1310 and 1320. These were identical in time, but faded differently, so I
have to assume it was something like the Jones soft rock network on two
different station. Never caught an ID as I arrived at work at 6:47 and
the noise level around the TV station is bad.

Caught "Jacksonville Tomcats" Arena Football against a Virginian team
tonight an hour after sunset onward over where else? WOKV 690. Sounded
as if it was putting out a 20db over 9 in St. Augustine, FL on an 1989
Infinity Chrysler AM st Car stereo. Then...
800 WPLK Palatka, FL on 1600 for a half mile or so coverage from
their East Palatka, FL xmtr site on FL 207 near jct of US 17. Was
curious when I passed the tower and sure enough, doubled the freq
and got'em. A bit distorted after a quarter mile or so...
1170 WKLN St. Augustine Beach, FL's jingle for same... out of CNN
News. Location - western most section of St. Johns County, FL
headed for Palatka/S.E. Putnam County. Their daytime signal would
expected to be marginal at best, but they were doing well at the
Putnam County St. Johns county line SW of St Augustine, FL on FL
207. This has gotta be daytime power (of about 700 watts if
memory serves)
1570 "... on 15-70 WSSA, Morrow, Atlanta." Gospel-country sounding
music about 9PM in the clear, moderate signal quality at best.
Very readable.
1580 WTCL Cattahoochie, FL... 'you're listening to ...Christopher
sweeper on 15-80 WTCL (explosives set off) Urban Gospel music
about 9:15PM all times eastern.
A San Antonio, TX has been making it to Jacksonville (Beach), FL every
morning between 6:15 and 7AM eastern... The Ticket. Promos for 1200 WOAI
(Gardening Show on Saturday...) forgotten the calls...

This latest round of solar activity hasn't produced much in the way of
unusual DX on mediumwave. Other than regular reception of RCR Venezuela
on 750 and a few Cuban stations, DX from southern latitudes has been
poor. Transatlantic DX has been poor because of the solar activity. I'm
going out to the Parker River salt marsh in Rowley MA this evening
(April 25) for a mini-DXpedition. Mark Connelly may be there too. The
hope is for some Caribbean and African DX, but reception will most
likely be dominated by Spain and north Africa if anything. However with
the active solar conditions, unusual reception is possible. Anyone in
the area is more than welcome to stop by. The location is the Parker
River NWR Nelson Island site, at the end of Stackyard Road, off of Route
1A north of Rowley center.

While driving in Arlington Heights, IL I heard a station, which I
assume is one of those billboard stations on 1550 kHz. The audio
consisted of a 2 and a half minute promo for a Cadillac, including
"Radio Cadillac" jingles and advertizing set to a blues song. Signal
peaked around Arlington Heigths Rd and Algonquin Rd. intersection. Even
heard it faintly at home in Wood Dale, IL, about 6 miles away. This does
get out.

Radio Rumbos should be hard-to-hear in Europe, due to Radio 10 Gold-
675 splatter, but anyway, here is the question: Did anbody in Europe
have ever heard venezuelan Radio Rumbos on 670 kHz ? It verry often
heard here, especially in fall and winter (now at spring it is nearly
impossible, due to extended day-light hours !), in Canada, in the
Montreal region, but what is about Europe ? I have heard that in any
corner of the world, they were reliably on 4970 kHz 60 mtrs tropical
band until it goes inactive around 1993 or so. Since, they left 4970, is
it still possible to hear them on MW-670 Caracas, from Europe ? Here in
eastern North America, it`s after RCR-750, the most reliable venezuelan
signal ?

Hi all, wondering if somebody can help me ID this station I heard on
Saturday night (4/21) at 10:50 PM. As you can see it was on 1390 and id
ed as " more inspirational music on Joy 1390". I had to tune down to
1387 because I was getting some splash from a local station on 1400 WTCY
so it wasn't that great of a signal but it was audible. As you can
probably tell it was gospel type music. This was heard on a Sangean
ATS505 and Radio Shack loop. Any help would be grateful.

The station I heard, and quite loud at times, with WPHT off was
playing one song at a time with a female announcer between each song,
but no IDs, even around 0300 ELT. One time I did hear what I think was
"program ...musica de la Cubana". I assumed this was R. Sancti-Spiritus
, but not confirmed.
It was nice to hear this frequency without WPHT - only have one other
station heard on 1210, that being the test from Centralia, IL a few
years back.
This and WCBM-680 (a huge pest here, I'm in the way of their signal as
it heads to the ocean...) off in the same night was fun. But nothing
new on 680 either, only WRKO and bits of an UNID SS.
**Bruce Conti - BACONTI@xxxxxxx
Here the only Spanish I've been able to identify under WRKO is WAPA
Puerto Rico. Most commonly heard under WRKO is WINR Binghamton and CFTR
Toronto. A phase null usually produces a fair signal from either one.
I'm only 30 miles from the WRKO transmitter site, and although the NRC
Night Pattern Book indicates strong north-south lobes, I can usually get
a good null probably because of a consistent nighttime groundwave
signal, and the skywave skips over me. New York City stations are more
of a challenge in terms of nullability than Boston.

with SS pronounciation. Any ideas?

I assume that this is not KNKA but XEFTA 770. Lately I have heard
something like this on 770. Ask him if he heard ek-EES ehh EFF-fay tay

Giving him the benefit of the doubt way over on the other side of the

for the F [EFF-aay ] as N [ EN-nay] then the Tay as kay. Thats a stretch

QRM from LCD thermometers
I also had the same problem with a LCD thermometer as Johan Berglund.
When I tried to listen at ham´s on the 160m band I had two S9+ short
buzzes every 10th sec. But it was only on my Sangean 909 with an indoor
active antenna (telescope wip) and not on my Icom R75 with 100m wire. So
after some days (and nights) it was a very irritating Qrm. So after I
had gone through the whole house in my hunt for the local qrm I tried at
the last resort to remove the batteries from my thermometer and ... it
dissapeared!
I figured out that it was a very local qrm since the thermometer is
located 50 cm from the Sangean´s antenna and 1.5 m from the start of my
100m wire and om the wire there was no qrm from the thermometer. It´s
temp sensor is located where the wire starts so it is only the
displayhousing causing the problem.

The Internet continues to be dogged by old-economy issues.
Bowing to pressure from advertisers, radio giant Clear Channel
Communications, which owns more than 1,200 stations nationwide and eight
in Washington, told its affiliates Monday to stop broadcasting on the
Internet. Stations owned by other chains -- Bonneville, ABC Radio and
Radio One -- have followed suit, or say that's their plan.
Last fall, advertising agencies signed a new contract with AFTRA, the
union that represents actors who voice radio commercials. The contract
pays the actors 300 percent of their normal fee if radio stations play
their ads on the Internet as well as on the radio.
Advertising trade groups sent advertisers a letter last month
reminding them of the higher fees. Faced with the increased costs, the
advertisers asked Clear Channel to stop playing made-for-radio
commercials over the Internet. On Monday, Clear Channel began pulling
the plug on Internet broadcasts of stations including sports-talk WTEM
(980 AM), soft rock WASH (97.1), country WMZQ (98.7) and new "Dynamite
Talk" WTNT (570 AM).
The conflict centers on "streaming," a process in which a radio
station takes its over-the-air signal and simultaneously broadcasts it
on a Web site, allowing listeners at computers anywhere in the world to
tune in.
Streaming became a "killer application" a couple of years ago, as Web
companies promised global audiences and markets to local radio stations.
According to Arbitron research, only 7.3 percent of the radio audience
regularly listens on the Internet, though that figure is up from 5
percent a year ago. Washington stations Smooth Jazz 105.9, Mix 107.3 and
WMAL (630 AM) -- all owned by ABC Radio -- are frequently among the
nation's most popular, according to MeasureCast, an Internet-monitoring
firm.
It boils down to this: Actors don't want their services "given away"
on the Internet, says AFTRA spokesman Dick Moore. And radio companies
don't want their advertising clients "to be liable for an extra talent
payment," says Kevin Mayer, chairman of Clear Channel's Internet group.
Clear Channel and other radio companies are scrambling for technology
that would allow them to selectively mute commercials -- allowing them
to be heard over the air but not on the Internet.
When will the Internet broadcasts resume?
"I wish I could tell you when," Mayer says.
Some stations, such as Bonneville-owend WTOP (1500 AM/107.7 FM), have
agreements with AFTRA that allow Internet broadcast of commercials at no
extra cost. Those stations are continuing their Web broadcasts.
This is the second recent blow to Internet radio: In December, the
U.S. Copyright Office ruled that stations that stream music over the
Internet have to pay double royalties for each song they play -- once
for playing it on the radio, once for streaming it on the Internet. The
radio industry is appealing the ruling.

BY ROBERT FEDER SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST
In an industry populated by charlatans and hucksters, John Gehron is
the genuine article. For more than 25 years, he has been one of radio's
most respected and admired statesmen.
As senior vice president of Infinity Broadcasting, Gehron oversees
programming in all 40 of its radio markets from his home base in
Chicago. It is a job for which he is eminently qualified, having won
radio wars in New York, Philadelphia, Boston and Chicago, where he ran
WLS-AM/FM (890/94.7) and WNUA-FM (95.5).
So when Gehron spoke out at a radio conference last month about the
failure of radio program directors to identify and develop on-air
talent, his remarks struck a nerve. "I hear a sameness from station to
station," he lamented. "I hear wonderful production, [but] I don't hear
any personality."
Nowhere is that trend more obvious than in Chicago, where it has been
seven years since a major personality burst on the scene--for better or
for worse--in the form of shock jock Mancow Muller.
More troubling, in Gehron's view, is the deployment of a so-called
"cyber jock," Sean Patrick Valentine, as morning host at Clear Channel
Communications' WKSC-FM (103.5), the new "Kiss FM." Valentine, who tapes
his voice tracks the previous night in Los Angeles, "isn't live, isn't
local and isn't good," Gehron said.
What's more, "Kiss FM" wasn't designed to beat Infinity's WBBM-FM
(96.3), but rather to serve as a strategic marketing tool for SFX
concerts and special events, he said.
More words of wisdom from the master:
* On finding new talent: "The problem is not a lack of corporate
support. It's that many of the program directors today were brought up
in a very controlling and `more music' environment. It's hard work
finding and developing talent. Many of the program directors are not
skilled at that. So the easiest thing for them to do is to have a lot of
wonderful production on the air and to play lots and lots of music. But
that doesn't really differentiate a radio station from somebody else
because we all have access to the same music.
"I blame program directors across all companies for not doing their
job, which is to find and train talent. It bothers me for the same
reason that I would be upset at a general sales manager who didn't find
and train sales people to build up their staff.
"It's not going on because it's hard work and because, with the
technology that's out there, it's easier to deal with machines than with
people. Great talent often is a management challenge. But that challenge
presented by talent is what makes radio great. Believe me, it's a lot
easier to play records than to work with talent."
* On serving listeners: "I think the listener isn't getting the full
benefit of what that [`Kiss FM'] frequency can provide. There are a lot
of good syndicated shows out there--like Howard Stern and Rush Limbaugh-
but they don't have one. Ultimately, the audience will decide what is
acceptable in each market."
* On Bonneville International's WDRV-FM (97.1), the new oldies/classic
rocker known as "The Drive": "I was surprised that [along with WLUP-FM
(97.9)] they would put two classic rock stations on the air. There's
only so large a market. I expected it to be a traditional classic rock
radio station, more like CD-94.7 with a little more of an edge to it.
And I thought they would move the Loop more in the active rock direction
to cover the young end between 18 and 34 [years old].
"The presentation has shown it doesn't work. We tried that back in the
'70s with this holier-than-thou approach. It was tried on 'XRT
[Infinity's WXRT-FM (93.1)] when they did all live-read commercials and
were holier than thou. 'XRT did much better when they became more of a
real radio station instead of a hobby."
* On radio's future: "Radio will thrive because we will correct
ourselves. We've always corrected ourselves. It just sometimes doesn't
happen as fast as we'd like. We're coming out of a period when on-air
talent was de-emphasized. And now it takes time to gear up again. But I
think most people in our industry that matter know that this is
necessary.
"One of the reasons Clear Channel is doing this cyber-jocking is
because there is a drought of talent, and they need talent now. So this
is a short-term solution in many cases to solve the immediate problem,
but it won't solve the long-term problem."

U.S FCC ends limit on TV networks owning UPN, WB
WASHINGTON, April 19 (Reuters) - U.S. regulators voted on Thursday to
repeal a rule that prohibits the four major television networks from
owning two smaller upstarts, a move which allows Viacom Inc.(NYSE:VIA -
news), owner of CBS, to retain the UPN network.
The Federal Communications Commission decided, by 3-1, to repeal the
dual network ownership limit that prevents ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox from
owning UPN and AOL Time Warner Inc.'s WB network, a rule designed to
promote diversity and competition.
Without the approval, Viacom -- which acquired CBS last year -- would
have had to sell off the UPN network by May. UPN had warned that without
its parent, the network could face financial difficulties.
Consumer groups have objected to eliminating the dual network
ownership limit, arguing that it would lead to further consolidation and
the loss of independent program developers.
``I do not believe this limited relaxation will harm diversity in the
marketplace,'' FCC commissioner Susan Ness said Thursday.
A periodic agency review concluded last year that the dual ownership
prohibition should end, finding that while eliminating the limit could
threaten diversity, the economic benefits outweighed that threat.
AOL Time Warner's WB network had urged the FCC to go further and put
upstart networks on a level playing field and eliminate rules that
prevent cable operators from owning local television stations.
Later this year the FCC will examine whether to scrap other television
ownership limits, such as a cap on how much of the national audience one
broadcaster can reach -- now 35 percent -- as well as a prohibition
forbidding one company from owning a newspaper and a television station
serving the same community.
NBC is owned by General Electric Co., ABC is owned by The Walt Disney
Co. and Fox is owned by News Corp.

Comment to Aurel Chiochiu regarding loggings of venezuelan MW-stations
in Europe. The list presented by Aurel are the same stations that are
regularily heard in Finland during fall, winter, with the exception of
550 and 570. Over all more than 100 venezuelan MW-stations have been
logged in Finland over the years. On the upper part of the band the most
regularily heard are 1290 Puerto Cabello, 1390 Fe y Alegria and Lumen
1200, 1410 R Simpatía, 1420 R Marabina, 1430 R Bahia, 1470 Vibración and
Latina, 1490 El Sol; 1500 Dos Mil, 1520 Bonita, 1550 Metropolitana and
1590 Deporte. I would think - after having been living in the US for 6
years - that, on the contrary, loggings of venezuelan and other Latin
American stations are easier in northern Europe because of almost the
absence interference from US/Canadian stations and the fact that the
European stations not are transmitting on the "10 kHz" frequencies.

Initial "Kaz Antenna" Tests at WA1ION
On Sunday, 22 APR, I installed a "Kaz antenna" in the yard behind my
house in Billerica, MA. This antenna was reviewed recently by John
Bryant (see "http://members.aol.com/DXerCapeCod/kaztests.pdf"). The
dimensions I used were 1 m elevation of base wire off the ground, 4 m
distance from center of base to apex of the triangle, and 16 m overall
base length. The two sloping sections of the triangle, therefore, were
a bit less than 9 m each. The antenna was in the open and was supported
at the apex by a nylon rope stretched between the upper branches of two
trees. The included area of this antenna is 32 sq. m which is
comparable to that of the "classic K9AY" area of 31.6 sq. m and about
1.7 times that of the smallest size version suggested by Neil.
The area was not ideal since it was hard to keep all parts of the
antenna structure as far as desirable from the house, coaxial lead-ins
of other antennas, and a metallic above-ground pool structure. The
coaxial cable to reach the feed side of the antenna ran roughly parallel
to, and over most of its length, about 5 m from the base wire. The
termination box had to be at the house end to achieve the desired west-
nulling cardioid pattern. Performance was similar to the Pennant which
had been tested in W. Yarmouth in July of 2000 inasmuch as the ability
to adjust the termination resistance proved very worthwhile. I think,
especially when there are imperfect set-up circumstances (stray coupling
possibilities), use of the voltage-variable resistor (Vactrol) is highly
recommended over settling on a fixed value in the 900 ohm range. Even
with the "jury-rigged" set-up, nulls of signals in the southwest to west
sector were good, probably 20 dB or better in most cases. The
resistance needed to produce a good null did vary somewhat both with
bearing and frequency: Worcester, MA stations on 580, 760, and 830
nulled at slightly different settings than those higher on the dial at
1310 and 1440. I have a sloping antenna on the opposite side of the
yard which is intended to null the same range of directions. In some
cases the sloper had a deeper null of a given station, but much of the
time the Kaz antenna did as well or better because its termination
resistance could be adjusted.
The controller box, coaxial coupler, and remote termination boxes used
are the same ones I used for the Pennant tests (see:
"http://members.aol.com/DXerCapeCod/pennant.htm": Pennant Antenna with
Remote Termination Control (HTML with GIF's) or
"http://members.aol.com/DXerCapeCod/pennant.pdf": Pennant Antenna
article: PDF file.
Signal output of the Kaz antenna was less than that from the sloper.
If desired, 10 to 20 dB of low noise amplification could be beneficial
to get the output in the same "ballpark" as that of a 30 m sloper or
end-fed wire.
The sloper (with noise reducing 4:1 transformer and "field site"
grounding) rejected local electrical noises from TV's, computers,
energy-saving gas-discharge lighting, and other sources better than the
Kaz antenna. When I had tested Pennants and K9AY's, they too had more
tendency to pick up electrical noise than balanced loops or noise-
reduced wires did. The Kaz and similar terminated loops are still
better in this regard than an active whip working against receiver
ground.
Night-time testing with the Kaz antenna showed somewhat better
rejection of high-angle skip from New York, Philadelphia, etc. than the
sloper had. On more distant signals (e.g. Chicago) there wasn't as much
difference. Generally speaking, if the termination resistance on the
Kaz was not adjustable, the sloper would have had the edge more often.
Some Trans-Atlantic signals were checked: in terms of hearability
(allowing for the different antenna efficiencies), the Europeans coming
in at the time - primarily high band Spain - were about the same amount
over the domestic slop on both antennas.
I am going to run more tests at home and possibly elsewhere before
putting together a comprehensive report in a month or so. Comparisons
with the Pennant will be part of the research. The first battery of
tests does not suggest any drastic differences in performance between
these two related antennas. More later.

FYI I've succeeded in writing a Perl script that reads the am_ant_sys,
am_eng_data, and facility tables from the FCC's CDBS database. It
displays, and saves to a disk file, information including city and
state, call, frequency, day & night powers, antenna mode (ND, DA1, DA2,
DAN, etc.), number of towers, and coordinates. I am not currently able
to plot antenna patterns. (maybe in a future version if I get curious
enough)
Sample lines of output:
LONG ISLAND, AK KABN- 840 10000d ND2(1) 6129 3 1494552
LONG ISLAND, AK KABN- 840 10000n ND2(1) 6129 3 1494552
If you have a Unix computer (especially a Linux system) Perl is likely
already installed. A free Perl interpreter also exists for Windows -
and I'm pretty sure for Mac as well. You also need to download the
files facility.zip, am_ant_sys.zip, and am_eng_data.zip from
ftp://ftp.fcc.gov/pub/Bureaus/Mass_Media/Databases/cdbs , and unzip
them. Assuming the FCC doesn't change the file format, you should be
able to get updated data by re-downloading these at any time.
The program is rather slow and should NOT be taken as an example of
good Perl programming! It does, however work which is probably all that
counts<grin>.
Of course, this program does not take the place of the AM Log. The
FCC doesn't track format, mailing address, or phone number, and the Log
lists those stations which are operating at variance to their license.

IRCA Mexican Log, 6th Edition

hears Mexican radio stations. Size is 8 1/2" x 11" and three hole
punched
for easy binding.Prices: IRCA/NRC members - $8.00 (US/Canada/Mexico/sea

above prices.
